Sometimes it's really confusing coming here after a day away and a lot of block words. Y'all sound like tweens saying "six - seven"

Never in my lifetime have I witnessed a politician so indignant, righteous, and combative about throwing the activists and door-knockers who got him elected under the bus. He's spent his term wooing his opponent's voting bloc while telling his own voters to kick rocks. No endgame here.
Brandon Johnson repeated this on WBEZ this week saying incredulously “there are people who want me to cut the police budget.”

I’d really love for him to reveal exactly who is asking that of him.

Because I can tell you this: a lot of people who want him to do that held their nose to vote for him.
Johnson vows to veto any budget that includes a property tax increase or makes cuts to the proposed $2.1 billion for the Chicago Police Department.

CONTEXT: No one has seriously proposed either.

Days until the Dec. 30 deadline for the City Council to pass a budget: 43

Imagine if state government worked like city government. You'd elect your state rep to represent you in Springfield, but they also get final say on your license renewal or repaving projects on IDOT roads in their district. Ridiculous

Dibs is antisocial behavior and I find posts characterizing it as a cute regional traditional both annoying and disappointing.

I know Chicago as a city that shows up for each other so why y'all refusing to help out when we're all going through this weather together

And to be clear, the mayor's 2026 proposal is not just a "no police cuts" budget -- it's a budget in which CPD (already the city's most expensive dept. by far) received a larger year-over-year net increase of non-grant funds than any other dept.

Larger than most other departments' entire budgets!

Went home, found Mom's router/wifi with taped on password right next to her computer, checked her billing to make sure she wasn't paying for the old Internet service still, set up her new picture taking bird feeder, uninstalled some spyware, figured out how to turn off her scammy web notifications.

One of the best things about #plowthesidewalks is that sidewalks are for everybody. You can't dibs a sidewalk, and once it's cleared, anyone can use it.
Ok people, let's get one thing straight. Whether you love dibs or hate dibs, we all agree on one thing: you don't get to claim dibs because you were parked and blocking snowfall. You have to actually SHOVEL THE SPOT.

If you don't like something, sharing it around for everyone else to not like it too is... A choice you can make.

You saw other people do it and they got lots of positive attention so why not

I tried to route through the off-street paths in the parks, and couldn't make it work in Humboldt. Too many paths laid before the age of automobiles are designed to cross roads mid-block, and there's been little effort to reconnect them.

I screwed up my home network, so I can't ssh into my hard coded IP raspberry pi. It's got these ridiculous micro HDMI monitor ports, so I ordered one from monoprice, and apparently there are multiple micro HDMI cables, because these are too big.
