I appear to have gained a few hundred followers as a result of being part of an autism starter pack, so maybe now is a good time to do some kind of introduction to my life and work in that realm.

Hi! I'm an autistic writer who covers autism, pop culture and the middle of that Venn diagram.
My primary issue with Heated Rivalry is that my brain refuses to accept any Ilya who does not have floppy blonde hair, an extra L in his name, and a boyfriend named Napoleon.

24 years ago, the magazine I was writing for sent my 19 year old ass to review Mulholland Drive. I re-read it for the first time a couple of weeks ago and wrote a little bit about making peace with things that you wrote before you were ready to write them.

I'm enjoying the Kenta/Testuya Endo pairing for a number of reasons. But I think the thing I'm most intrigued about is that Endo's humour really shines when he's playing off other people who are also funny and Kenta is exactly that kind of wrestler.

I've known this was coming for...pretty much my entire life. It's a miracle it's lasted as long as it has in the condition it has. But I'm still having a lot of feelings about this.

History is in the making today as the Iron Scow, a 107-year-old ship wreck lodged above Niagara Falls, has shifted downstream.

I'm one of those Not Good With Change autistics, so I knew that moving was going to do a number on me, but I'm still shocked at the extent to which it has fucked with almost every aspect of my life. And how much downtime I seem to need to get out of this hole.

Aaron says this look is not cohesive, but I think I look like someone who could die under wildly tragic circumstances in a Miami Vice episode. (Please forgive the mess in the background. We are still unpacking. Perhaps eternally.)

If you have even a quarter as much fun listening to this as I had recording it, you’re in for a very good time.
OUT NOW! @fodderfigure.bsky.social joins to discuss The Man from U.N.C.L.E. #3: The Copenhagen Affair. Our thirst for uncles knows no bounds, and Sarah devoted a whole chapter of her first book to her special interest in the series, so we’ve got a lot to discuss! Listen: shorturl.at/lDZ45

It's not exactly the same, but people who only talk about Jason in Taskmaster remind me of people who only talk about Chris in DDT. Or Kenny in NJPW.

Our building has been testing the fire alarms and emergency lights for an hour and a half now and I don’t consider myself especially sensitive to sounds or flashing lights (although I have been tested for epilepsy on two separate occasions) but my autistic ass is going through it.

I don’t think you can have an informed discussion about pro wrestling as performance art without touching on DDT’s rojo shows.

I have a trans friend I met through recreational martial arts. Some gyms and orgs deferred to the IOC's stance when deciding whether or not to allow her to participate. This ban has the potential to harm and exclude trans women at every level of athletics.

the world of journalism gets smaller and smaller every day. soon there will be nothing left to read, nowhere left to write. my condolences to everyone who is now out of a job. this sucks, big time
Today, Paste Magazine shuttered all its non-music verticals, a choice I am both professionally and personally heartbroken about. Sadly, I am once again looking for a place that wants to let me write about Books and TV on the regular, so hit me up if that’s you or anyone you know.

I've got a small consulting gig related to fitness and autism at the moment, and I think I might be good at it? And it's less stressful and more rewarding than a lot of writing gigs I've had.

My husband slept through at least ten minutes of fire alarms and announcements at 4am, but woke up when the cat yelled at him for food. Now I’m explaining to the cat that his life is essentially in her hands if anything actually goes wrong here and I’m not home.

This might be small compared to the incredible tributes I've read to Alice Wong's activism, writing, and being an all around great human, but I'll also remember Alice as someone who celebrated the little things that made disabled people a little happier in this world.

As an elder millennial Torontonian, I spend a lot of time trying to check myself about my 90s Toronto nostalgia. Was it actually better, or did I just have fewer problems of an adult on my head and my shoulders? But the truth is, some things were better because common people could do more then.

The incredible, indomitable, inspirational Alice Wong has left us.

I'm so grateful to have known her on social media, and so grateful for all the words she shared with us and all the actions she encouraged us into making.

May we live up to her example.

oh, p.s.

Her column has been deleted at Teen Vogue, but you can find her articles under her author name:

(I saw a post going around—that I can't reply to—saying her column has been deleted, but I found her words via this page.)
Her last post was about being laid off from Teen Vogue. Terrible.
