So, after their meeting Putin declared he has “an understanding” with Trump and urged Europe to “not throw a wrench in the works” and “not use backroom dealings” to torpedo it.

No! Ukraine and European allies must seize control and reject the dictators stich-up.

This is a frightening escalation from the Tories and Reform.

You may personally disagree with the outcome of a jury trial.

But it is absolutely correct from the point of view of how our legal system works, and has worked for centuries. Due process followed to the letter.

No two-tier justice here!
Reform UK and the Conservatives have called the acquittal of suspended Labour councillor Ricky Jones on charges of encouraging violent disorder after he called for far-right activists’ throats to be cut "two-tier justice" and called for government action.

This was a *jury trial*.

The ‘Matilda’ theory of international relations: “I'm right & you're wrong, I'm big & you're small, & there's nothing you can do about it.” How did that work out in the book? Europe can & must now ensure that Trump & Putin can’t bully Ukraine into defeat. More aid, more sanctions & seize RU assets!
Trump is trying to spin yesterday’s meeting as progress, but in reality nothing changed. He told Zelensky: “Now it all depends on you. Make a deal. Russia is a very big country. Ukraine is not.”

Trump claimed “we are very close to a deal — Ukraine just has to accept it.”

Trump has entered into a new and wilder stage of authoritarian neofascism. No holds barred. Nothing out of bounds.

But tyrants cannot succeed where people refuse to submit to them.

And we must not submit.

I genuinely do NOT understand the idiocy of having Putin proxies on TV News, like Sergei Markov just now screaming Russian propaganda on Sky News for ten minutes.

We are at war with Russia. When before has UK media ever platformed enemy states who attack our allies and poison people in our streets?

Trump has shown his contempt for European democracies time and again.

Europe must take control of its own security, and spend all that is necessary to secure the freedom of Ukraine and end dependence on the USA.

Don't let Anchorage be a 2nd Munich.

Military support to Ukraine is more important than enlargement
EU enlargement alone won’t bring peace or security to Ukraine. Without increased military support, Europe risks prolonging the war

Every day, politicians and the right wing media whip up hatred and fear of migrants. None of them say this is wrong. None of them make the positive case for immigration. None of them tell the truth.
And then, today, someone did speak out, and the sodding BBC sodding apologised for them.
I give up.
FFS! In the midst of the dog-whistling howls, Thought For The Day today was a welcome relief. Calling out Jenrick for his brazen xenophobia and urging people to hold on to their empathy and not to let fear become cruelty.
It’s intolerable that the BBC apologised for that rare moment of decency.
