Inbox: Chicago Stars FC re-sign Alyssa Naeher to a one year deal through 2026. She returns to Chicago for an 11th season. In the end of season roster updates, the club noted Naeher as a free agent but did not specify they were in negotiations with the player for a new deal
"I’m excited to be returning for my 11th season with Chicago," said Naeher. "I feel like I still have more to give and want to be out there competing with my teammates and continue to push this organization forward. We made a lot of positive strides to close out last season and I want to build on that."

The debate is: 1) the league’s position that player contracts are with the NWSL and thus they have full authority to negate any contract; and 2) the NWSLPA’s position that a “player’s free agency rights… supersede any other inconsistent NWSL rules, regulations, handbooks, or competition guidelines.”

Seems like the league’s entire argument hinges on one thing and that isn’t if the contract is legal or not… it’s if the league can say no simply because players contract with the league and not a team, giving the league full control over every individual contract.

If you wanted to ensure that women's football does not grow, you couldn't do better than what they are doing with the WSL. In addition to this sort of nonsense, which they've been doing for years, they moved the majority of matches to a timeslot that has seen TV audiences plummet.
