He/Him. Horror propagandist & football shitposter.
I *think* ppl focusing on the endings in horror romance are trying to articulate the genre mix they want—(1) because it’s hard to balance the two, (2) most horror ends happily enough anyway.

If I’m right, the best move is throw away the trope list, the genre signifiers, focus harder on— (1/2)
it's always interesting when conversions about horror romance arise, with even transgressive folks agreeing there is no way for the two to coexist. like it might be a fucked up romance, much like what we see in dark and gothic romance, but idk...

people can get disemboweled and still have a HEA

Finished this set the other day. A damned good follow-up to the first volume—CASTLE bled atmosphere & the gothic, GHOST is the bleakest film out of both sets (less a ghost tale and more existential horror), and MOUNT OE… was odd. Good? But odd. Great practical monsters.

Highly, highly recommend it.

it's not even quite "contempt" I feel when I hear stuff like that. It mostly just makes me dead certain that there is absolutely nothing interesting about the speaker's interior life, that they are not going to have a single thought I will ever need to listen to ever again

if you think "AI" is going to "outperform" writers at "literary fiction" we have nothing else to talk about. there is a fundamental rift in the way we see art and humanity and it's never gonna get solved, even when this AI horseshit goes away

Revisiting DETENTION for the first time in eons. Modern Taiwanese horror couldn’t have asked for a better debut on the world stage.

DETENTION and DEVOTION are the finest one-two punch since SH2 & 3.

This is what integrity looks like. "Do it for all of us, or don't do it at all." Let's hope the folks who bought our legacy magazines are shamed into better behavior and we won't have to consider them scoundrels any longer.
Did you read my post from last week about how contract woes caused me to withdraw an accepted story from F&SF, ending my 54-year quest to be published in that magazine? But wait (as the saying goes) — there's more! Scroll down at the link for an update. www.scottedelman.com/wordpress/20...

So we're planning to publish this one as one of our new Paperbacks from Hell. Only the book is so scarce that we can't find a copy to scan for our text. If anyone has one to lend us, send us a message. We'll swap you some free Valancourt books for your trouble!

Finally! Stevenson with an original feature!

Damn… it’s almost been a decade since I started banging the drum for that.
The director of The First Omen, Arkasha Stevenson will next be directing an untitled horror movie for A24.

"The film reportedly centers on a bachelor party that spirals into terror."

Josh Hutcherson, Frank Dillane, Caleb Landry Jones & Whitmer Thomas star.

Leslie was such an astute cultural critic and reviewer as well as a deeply funny guy. Was so happy we got to talk about David Cronenberg back in the day for a special double episide of Struggle Session and HV. A real loss - please chip in to the GFM if you are able.
i'm sorry to have to relay this, but Leslie Lee III has passed away. if you can help with his family's expenses, please read on. they need the help right now.

3 tomes down. 13 to go.
1,542 pages read, 5,836 remaining.
At the halfway point of the first series.

On to tome 4. I’ve understood 95% of the work so far… but here’s where I expect to start getting my ass kicked.
