And just in case I didn't make it sound exciting enough, those are 400,000-year-old wooden tools!!! 🤩
That's a name to keep in mind: Sorry Schöningen spears, but there's a new top dog in town - the #Marathousa tools from southern #Greece may have been used to butcher elephants ... 400,000 years ago:

In response to announcement that he will be a new CBS contributor, Andrew Huberman tweeted “I’ve always gone issue-by-issue on health & science, spoken to experts w/a range of takes & presented where I see the center of (data) mass pointed. I’ll do the same with @CBSNews”. In Sept he posted this:

1 of the things that actually watching video essays did for me, especially skip intro's, was helping me peel back how much copaganda their truly is, how much of police reform is tilted in polices favor & how the mainstreams view of police does not match observation. m.youtube.com/watch?v=1Bgw...

Incidentally, Erich von Däniken was also convicted three times for embezzlement and fraud (his first Chariots sequel was written from prison), and he later *admitted that he sometimes made stuff up for his books*
von Däniken relied on the JAQ (just asking questions) method to promote racist ideas through pseudoarchaeological narratives. These ideas permeated all of his books, were broadcast to and normalized through enormous audiences over decades, and have even found homes in far-right places.
This is a fun read but it doesn’t really reckon with the fact that these theories are inherently racist, rooted in the idea that ancient non-western civilizations *couldn’t* make these structures. www.nytimes.com/2026/01/11/o...

A dominant theme of Hitler's speeches in the late 1930s is that Germany was surrounded by threats. These threats were imaginary: it was Nazi Germany that threatened other nations. But they were used to justify pre-emptive attacks. Trump is following this script.

And this is exactly the reason why there should be a professional ethics framework agreed with urgency for #gen-AI, in particular photo-realistic stuff : archaeologists and heritage orgs who use it for general outreach & #SciComm are contributing to this problem.
I’m increasingly uneasy about the flood of AI images on social media. They are mostly absurd and frustrating. They may sometimes be creative experiments, but the fact that so many users take them at face value says a lot about our collective loss of visual literacy.

Hi. Court reporter here again. I can confirm about a third of local cases I see are domestic abuse of women and girls. Where do you think the men start? And almost every columnist tells you to look elsewhere.
This is the second story in three days The Times has carried arguing against misogyny lessons in schools, which it describes as "some weird feminist attack on male children".
