Mr Lyle says he can scratch out any Trump nominee eyes if you give treats.

Also, if his handsomeness makes anyone feel better, please enjoy.

I handed a physical copy of my EHRC submission to my MP's office, followed up with an email a month later, complete silence. I guess that confirms their position.
srtristan.bsky.social
Better than the silence from my MP to two queries about the EHRC guidance. Generally I think there is a fear to back trans people existing now. The UK is in a limited-rights spiral.

The Council of Europe has warned that the UK gov’s treatment of trans people may breach human rights law.

This must be a wake up call.

We’ve seen an increase in hostility towards trans in recent years.

Everyone deserves dignity, safety, & respect - that includes trans people.

🏮 He's very concerned about measures which oblige trans people to out themselves publicly and significantly increase their vulnerability to harassment, abuse and even violence

🏮 And he asks for an evidence-based approach. This ought to be common sense but sadly none of this is evidence based.

Quite a bodying, here, for the UK, from the Commissioner for Human Rights, Council of Europe.

🏮 He points out the Supreme Court ignored human rights (which breaches its legal obligations)
🏮 He says, in effect agreeing with Lucy Powell, Parliament should be involved...

Read my two letters to the #UK:
1. Protests: I call for a review of the legal framework and the reconsideration of provisions in the Crime & Policing Bill that could restrict freedom of assembly.
2. Trans people: I warn against exclusion&zero-sum approaches

This is great news. We've hired the classicist Spencer Klavan to teach at New College of Florida. Goodbye gender studies; hello, Greek literature.

Truly excited to be teaching an online survey course in Greek literature this fall semester @NewCollegeofFL. Even more excited that it's open to the public. Please join in here! We'll be reading Homer, Aeschylus, Aristophanes, and lots more.

Tom Bowman has held his Pentagon press pass for 28 years. He says the Pentagon's new media policy makes it impossible to be a journalist, which means finding out what's really going on behind the scenes and not accepting wholesale what any government or administration says. n.pr/4q87Jwb

The trailblazing transgender rights activist Miss Major has passed away at the age of 78.

Miss Major was a lifelong organizer and participant in the ballroom scene. She took part in the 1969 Stonewall Riots and was injured by the police — but she kept fighting.

For Du Bois, the anti-immigrant violence of the Jim Crow state—which would *accelerate* under the Second Klan & its regime of white nationalist immigration policies—represented an existential threat against targeted groups & the prospect of democracy itself.

We really need to be thinking abt the current regime through the lens of the Second Klan, which helped to nationalize systems of Jim Crow state & vigilante violence & exploitation while creating an explicitly white nationalist immigration system. They even paraded down Pennsylvania Ave.

Some of these are real jobs (though possibly sometimes the respondent has been trying to make them posher?) Others make you suspect the respondent may have been taking the mickey, which is always a risk when polling the British public…

Job occupations, from an 1881 census. Every one of these sounds like something a sorely provoked Captain Haddock would should at someone in times of heavy stress.

Black people held their own constitutional conventions before the Civil War and the Black Panthers held their own constitutional conventions in the 1970s; the Seneca Falls Convention of 1848 started the march to the Equal Rights Convention; and the Abolitionist movement petitioned Congress.

Important piece by Prof. Kate Andrias. This is why treating SCOTUS as the only word on the Constitution gives away our power as citizens.

As I frequently say “we are founders and framers” of the next iteration of democracy in this country.

I supported the first shutdown in March b/c I knew Russell Vought yet to be appointed and he would be way, way worse than DOGE. He holds much of the populace in contempt for needing any governmental support and for reasons unknown to me, hates the modern innovative state. Like who hates patents?
thomaszimmer.bsky.social
Russell Vought embodies the radicalization of the conservative movement; his example captures how far removed from democratic politics the Trumpist Right is. Vought is convinced to be fighting a noble war against a vast leftist conspiracy that has supposedly taken over the country.

This is why President Trump is obsessed with cultural takeover: the Kennedy Center, the Garden of Heroes, the weird architecture obsession. But I mean if you want to takeover culture, again, it has to be appealing. The one thing they did right in 2024 was to build on the manosphere culture.
jamellebouie.net
a key thing about vought — and all of these guys — is that they have a totally top down and hierarchical vision of the world. they believe that the cultural changes they hate can be turned off by destroying the federal government because they can’t imagine that they emerged bottom-up in society
thomaszimmer.bsky.social
What he’s railing against is a profound shift in culture, status… He’s obsessed with the idea that America is controlled by a leftist “ruling elite” - but “elite” isn’t defined socio-economically or by political power, it means something like: Getting to define “real America” and who gets to belong.

Back from visiting civilisation in Canada and I didn't miss Scottish transphobia. It is so glaring when you see inclusive signs on shops, rainbow crosswalks, or news that quotes trans people not solely those looking to exclude them. (More important, spoke to parents of 2 thriving trans young adults)
