More generally, we need to understand when they say they will run universities, or governments, or even society itself “like a business”, they do not mean by way of economic interests and short-term profit, but by way of authoritarian make-believe and conspiracisms more real than reality itself

The insurance industry, whose job is to economically rationalize all outcomes, has no problem understanding the reality of climate change and incorporating it into their models. It is the other actors, business leaders and governments, who claim to be motivated by these same factors but are not.

The notion that economic rationality is non-ideological is, of course, wrong; but that isn’t the form that motivates ideological climate denial, being something altogether more sinister.

We need to develop an understanding that climate denial is first and foremost ideological and not driven by the supposed ‘non-ideology’ of rational self-interest/greed

Because you're sad and angry and scared and miserable all the time and after a while you just get numb to everything, you can't have proper emotions any more. You can coping-strategy your way into severe emotional dysregulation.

When you are depressed it is important to not pathologise genuine sadness. You need to learn to recognise when you are sad because things are saddening, angry because things are maddening, anxious because things are scary. But part of the disease is not being able to recognise that.

And also, life is not supposed to be *permanently* stressful. We're adapted to short periods of stress. If you maintain that kind of thing for weeks, let alone months or years, with no respite or hope, that's putting people into PTSD territory.
Right, but is it that we’re “forgotten life can be stressful” or is it that neoliberal capitalism doesn’t allow us to have natural, normal reactions to stress, so we seek treatment? www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Hundreds of GPs in England tell the BBC they are also worried about a lack of help for patients.

What's breaking people is being in a kind of permanent low grade flight or fight response they can't get out of, while having to pretend they're not having it, going about their lives as if everything is fine when it isn't.

Attorney Siri makes the utterly disingenuous statement that the scientific community hasn’t studied whether vaccines “don’t cause” autism.

You can’t prove a negative using the scientific method. He’s been told this many times.

The international space station cost, over its entire lifetime, about 150 billion, or just under twice the amount zuck pissed up a wall for his shitty second life clone. A modern U.S. navy nuclear aircraft carrier costs about 13 billion. 77 billion with this little to show for it is comical.
