Shorts weather always seems a little discombobulating on Thanksgiving; there will be no getting cozy by the fire. But I suppose we've earned a pleasant day after all the rain and coolness lately. So enjoy! We could be back to cool and rainy by next weekend. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

It's been another unusual storm, with more rain falling in San Diego than in North County. Even rarer, most spots in the mountains have been drier, too. The weather service says we can expect some scattered showers into Saturday, about 0.10 to 0.30 of an inch, coast & valleys. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

There was enough of a break in the clouds this morning to the east to let the rising sun shine through in inland North County. … Some light rain has been recorded in a few spots along the coast. Oceanside has 0.03 of an inch. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

March of the cloud pillows: We’ve had some pretty skies the days before & between storms lately. Cumulus have floated by today in advance of the next round of rain, which the weather service says could begin tonight. Odds are higher Thursday p.m., with thunderstorms possible. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

By San Diego County standards, it's one big brrrr! High temperatures aren't expected to rise out of the low 60s in the valleys and at the coast for the next three days. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

San Diego dipped to at least 48° this morning. That's the coldest it's been in town since March 16, when it was 47. Ramona fell to 34° today. The Mount Laguna Lodge (pictured) got a tiny bit of snow. #sandiegoweather #CAwx

A recent onslaught of storms pushed many of California’s creeks and streams to unusual territory and crushed rainfall records in other parts of the state.

The Merced River in Yosemite NP was flowing faster than any November in half of a century. Santa Barbara demolished a monthly rainfall record.

A major California city also just got more November rain than anytime in a century as California's water totals are off to a strong start following storms.

It's early, but California's water year (Oct. 1 start) is off to a good, wet start. The Northern Sierra, a key region for the state's water supply, has recorded 168% of normal precipitation for today's date. San Diego has had more than three times its normal rain for Nov. 18. #CAwx #sandiegoweather

As winter flooding looms, it's worth noting that a young street tree in an asphalt surface can prevent 60% of the rain that falls on it from reaching the ground, even when not in leaf.

Increasing the low levels of urban tree cover should be a strategic national priority.
