Chicago based ex-academic who spends most of his time taking pictures of his dog. She is evil, and I love her. I’m never really sure if I’m doing things right, but I’m still here and still trying.

Why does anyone live in Sunnydale???????

Even if you don’t know why the mortality rate is so high, you have to be like “a lot more people die in this town than others, best to leave”

Not to take away from them, but it is really interesting how the era of the Big 3 has essentially eliminated the era of Sampras. At this retirement, he could plausibly be called the greatest tennis player ever, and 10 years later, it was like Pete Who?

“Failure to comply with this directive risks the USTA’s status as the National Governing Body (‘NGB’) for the sport of tennis in the United States,” the…policy states.”

What a cowardly thing to hide behind. No other org in the US is close to having the capability to govern tennis within the US.
SCOOP: The United States Tennis Association (USTA) quietly updated its player eligibility policy to ban trans women from competing as women in their leagues, tournaments and competitions in order to comply with Trump's anti-trans sports executive order. The policy went into effect on Monday.

Within this story, is MLB giving up MLB.TV to ESPN. MLB, at one point, was the gold standard in streaming/out of market availability, but they screwed up through product apathy and actively hating their customers. Fitting that it ends with them just giving to ESPN.
MLB lands new media deals with NBC, Netflix and ESPN as league restructures TV future: Sources
The three-year agreements were a direct result of ESPN opting out of the final three seasons of its contract in February.

I am no longer a knower of British politics, but I don’t understand why Keir Starmer is still PM. I get that my feed is likely a bubble of anti-Starmer, but I’ve never seen any mention of him delivering for any core Labour constituency. Surely Labour can find someone else?

NEW: a contractor is paying random people $300 to physically track immigrants for ICE. They're given addresses, vehicles, told to monitor the target. That information then goes back up to ICE. These are not licensed private investigators; members of the public

Thinking about the outcomes here re Epstein:

1. Files tell us what we already knew
2. Explosive reveals Trump implicated, country moves on eventually
3. Explosive, Trump implicated, scandal remains
4. Files excluded, we don’t find out
5. Files excluded, we do find out
6. Trump vetoes, no override

Remember in the first term, pundits were like “today is the day Trump finally acted presidential” and then the next day he would go back to talking about injecting chlorine into your body.

Good times

Tangential point: Too many professionals feel a need to reflexively defend against external critiques. We see this so much with lawyers. Saw it this weekend with a former NYT reporter defending the Epstein piece.

This reflexiveness closes them off to actually listening.
The legal profession needs to realize it failed and has to get better.

Coup plotters, Constitution-ignorers, rationalizers, enablers, the Supreme Court's calvinball rulings — all yours.

Your culture said move slowly, give benefit of the doubt, even treat it like a game. Far from all, but enough.
