It is, as always, important that we do not let reactionaries have a monopoly on religion.

Religion, all religion, is ultimately about community & shared culture, it came be a thing to tie us together.

Once you open "porn" up for removal, or acceptable removal, based upon a moving scale of gray morality, everyone's work is fair game. Everyone's. Because just being queer? Is considered by many perverse. Even if everyone has their clothes on, perverse.

Protect. Porn.

Excellent stuff from @graceblakeley.substack.com. People believe that if you build more houses then the price will come down. This simplistic analysis ignores the fact that the demand side is virtually unlimited due to the super rich wanting to buy up all of the assets.
"Ending the housing crisis requires attacking one of the foundations of neoliberal capitalism: the idea that we are all little, budding capitalists just waiting for the opportunity to invest in financial markets."

Building More Won't Fix the Housing Crisis
Housing has become a financial asset that generates vast gains for the wealthy.

It wasn’t until after 2010 though (especially after the failure of the 2009 COP, that everyone thought would be THE ONE to finally go through), that I started noticing the weird disconnects on security and climate change. And related questions popping up.

Like, if you put together some of the
It was 2007 when I first started seeing reports about how climate change had(has) security/military implications

The same will be true if every time something atrocious happens like this and no one is held accountable.

as i've said in the past, the delta between a certain subset of ""liberal"" elites and the liberal base is genuinely astounding

they have no idea how angry we are
this is fundamentally about america's liberal elites not having the courage of their convictions, if they have convictions to begin with. they fetishize endless discussion and discourse and refuse to simply act.

When liberal students complain about misgendering or trigger warnings, they get dismissed as snowflakes.

When conservative students complain about DEI, they get faculty and administrators removed from their positions and subjected to inquiries.
A professor at Texas A&M taught… something related to gender that offended a student, who secretly filmed herself objecting. That video is picked up by TX legislators, who demand her firing, and now the dean and dept head have been fired.

Today, we are remembering David Graeber, who passed away five years ago.

People often dislike when art isn't fun and/or comforting.

They often dislike when art holds a mirror to them.

They dislike stories where a traumatized character causes unjust harm because people like to believe their trauma makes them righteous.

In short, these are all good things for art to do.
The writer’s role is to menace the public’s conscience. He must have a position, a point of view. He must see the arts as a vehicle of social criticism and he must focus on the issues of his time.

Apparently, Silicon Valley thinks eugenics is the only way to save humanity from AI-fueled extinction. They insist their eugenics isn't bad eugenics, because theirs involves parents choosing to screen and selectively implant embryos based on genetically predicted IQ. But choice is a slippery slope.

Labeling delegates who were uncomfortable with the Target Center bathroom arrangements as transphobic risks driving people out of the Democratic Party. Some may accept that loss, but it could very well mean the Democrats remain at record low popularity nationally.
