Minnesota officials rejected the DOJ’s request for records related to election-day registration and residency verification.

The demand targets a state law allowing voters to register at the polls and establish residency through a voucher, which the department argues violates federal law.

Good afternoon from downtown Chicago, where despite heavy snowfall, thousands have gathered for an anti-ICE/CBP demonstration in solidarity with the Twin Cities. More are still streaming in.

Lt. Illinois Gov. Juliana Stratton just addressed the crowd, and called for ICE to be abolished.

IF we had a real opposition leader fighting fascism, they would: tell the truth, expose the fascists’ tactics, mobilize resources, unite the resistance, make it undeniable—accountability absolutely coming when they’re in power
The brilliant @fieldsmeyer.com wrote the powerful words I want to hear
I wrote the speech I *wish* Chuck Schumer would give tonight - as an actual opposition leader. Here it is:

"My fellow Americans: At this hour, an unrestrained force of militarized and violent federal officers is carrying out a project of ethnic cleansing in the streets of American cities."

Senate Democrats will not provide the votes to proceed to the appropriations bill if the DHS funding bill is included.

Absolutely reprehensible that AG Bondi is offering ICE stand down in exchange for access to voting rolls. Outrageous and disgusting. It shows ICE is in Minneapolis is not for law enforcement purposes. Instead it’s a way to stir up shit in blue states and extort them.
In the wake of another fatal shooting in Minneapolis.
AG Pam Bondi sends Gov. Walz a letter today making several asks including:
"Allow DOJ Civil Rights division access to state voter rolls"

“As a physician, I felt a professional and
moral obligation to help this man, especially since none of the agents were helping him …..

… Checking for a pulse and administering CPR is standard practice. Instead of doing either of those things, ICE agents appeared to be counting his bullet wounds.”
WOW on Pretti's denial of medical treatment

"I informed the ICE agents that I am a physician, and I asked to
assess the victim.

At first, the ICE agents wouldn't let me through. ... But none of the ICE agents who were near the victim were performing CPR, ... None of the agents were helping him."

You have to read this. Firsthand affidavit from one of the women who was there and recording the video. She talks about how Alex Pretti was directing traffic when she arrived. She watched him be killed in front of her. She's afraid to go home, worried she'll be arrested.

This is why I have been telling people to work in their community to create local legislation denying ICE access to lease or buy these kinds of facilities. Use zoning and other city/state/county regs to block them wherever possible. (Remember, before it became a camp, Dachau had been a factory.)

I’ve never seen anything quite like Chief Judge Schiltz’s letter to Chief Judge Colloton.

(The Eighth Circuit has since denied DOJ’s application, but didn’t acknowledge any of its … ridiculous … behavior.)
A magistrate judge found no probable cause to support arrest warrants for 5 people involved in the St. Paul church protest.

DOJ appealed to the 8th Cir.

That appeal led to this remarkable letter from the Chief Judge of the Minnesota district court…

Essentially, what stops abductions is when crowds outnumber the masked kidnappers. When people aggressively follow ICE with whistles and horns, crowds are ready to show up. If they show up fast enough, ICE leaves and a family is not broken. (People here understand the stakes).
