The new series of The Assembly dropped on ITVX at the weekend, starring David Tennant and Danny Dyer.

Here’s an article I wrote last year about the show’s format and portrayals of autism on screen.

Telly is weird. As an autistic person, I’ve never felt wholesome
The microphone is passed to a young man sat along the row. He laughs a little, avoiding all eye contact, and suddenly struggles to speak…

For those who haven’t read it, I recently wrote a piece on autistic women and the dreaded GP visit

I tried a more elaborate post but deleted it. I’ll say, do you like my toilet, if so perhaps you’ll like my other things. www.chloecumming.com

Do you have autism? Or did they start changing the layout of the car park at Lidl and you’re crying like they’re excavating a historical site

I love this piece. ❤️ As a neurodivergent healthcare professional, I speak to so many neurodivergent people who have been harmed by the biases baked into our healthcare system, and its increasing inaccessibility to brains that feel the world differently from the norm.

Don’t know about you but there’s a lot of suffering around me right now and none of it has been inflicted by the trans community.

We're watching the wholesale burning of every scrap of dignity afforded to trans people in the UK, their rights, their medical services, their employment, their place within society, their bodily functions.

It is a disgrace, and a disgusting stain on the government and media of this country.

Trans women has been welcomed at the Women's Institute since the 1970s and one member is in her 80's and has been a member for decades. This is pure bigotry pushed by legal threats backed monetarily by JK Rowling.

This brilliant piece gets to the heart of what happens when you are asked the "difficult question" that you know is coming, but are never sure how to answer.

This is epic and I felt that deeply. I have had this so much now I don't even attend medical appointments on my own now. As someone at some point will announce my EDS or Autism is really just me being anxious. Despite expert diagnoses the nurse giving me a covid jab knows I'm not like her nephew.

You can tell when a woman on a dating app is autistic, mainly because her bio tends to read like a description on a cat rehoming Facebook page

This is so good. This is me not meeting the criteria only because I get along well with people and have friends, and my trans son undiagnosed for the same reason. The conventional wisdom is that you can't have a high EQ and be autistic, largely because the conventional wisdom is based on cis men.
