Writer of Richard Rorty fan fiction. Progressive pragmatist. Armchair agitator. Just trying to get by.
#Pluribus continues to be one of those genre shows where the protagonist is an idiot because she’s apparently never seen the genre before. Everyone knows in the post-apocalyptic zombieland you need a gun to shoot the wolves. Dumbass.

My opinion on #pie is that the internet doesn’t understand hyperbole. And yes, pumpkin pie is gross.

#WakeUpDeadMan is an intensely Catholic parable about sin, forgiveness and redemption, with some incisive critiques of our contemporary culture. The caricatures are flimsier than the previous installments of #KnivesOut, but it makes up for it with a nicely nuanced take on #myth and #truth.

My thanksgiving plate has four foods on it. Turkey. Stuffing. Gravy. Cranberry.

Anything else is wasted space.

Bill Kristol… that’s William fucking Kristol… calling for a New Deal. I remember when this guy ran the Weekly Standard, which was basically the Weekly “let’s trash FDR."

I couple years ago I discovered a dumpling recipe that I followed and had terrific results. In the years since, I‘ve tried multiple times to replicate it, and I always end up with a glob of fried starch and a pile of delicious meatballs. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.

Socks with sandals, particularly during air travel, is a hill I’m prepared to die on. Cozy, ventilated, and no discomfort from swelling feet.

I like to think of myself as the kind of guy who spends Tuesday evening reading essays like “The Moral Obligation to be Intelligent” by Lionel Trilling. Most of the time, though, I’m the kind of guy who watches reruns of HIMYM for the third time. Not always, but more often than not.

I believe MTG is genuinely disillusioned with Trump. I think her MAGA faith was broken by the Epstein Files saga. That doesn’t mean she’s suddenly going to turn towards a rigorous, evidence-based worldview. But she’s taking her first steps toward a more sane relationship with reality.

Season 4 of #TheMorningShow is really bad, even by its usual glossy soap opera standards. The convoluted conspiracy plot jumps the shark over and over again. Dire dialogue, smart characters doing dumb things, totally unrelated characters being roped into plots where they don’t have any real purpose.

The best part of #DownCemeteryRoad is the dorky morgue attendant’s crush on 66-year-old #EmmaThompson. I find it very relatable.

Ted Danson has really great dad energy with cute adult women. Watching “A Man on the Inside” and he’s just incredibly charming with both of the lead women.

Most of the guys I work with didn’t show up today after reports of ICE in the area. It’s probably my imagination, but the city streets feel quiet and empty.

Me: what was your favorite part of the weekend?

Him: my play dates

Me: my favorite part was when we lay on our backs and watched the clouds, and the bats came out to feed and the setting sunlight made the forest glow. I loved doing that together.

Him: me too. Let’s do that together again.

My ill-informed opinion is that Casino Royale (2006) is peak action sequence. That foot chase in the opening scene is terrific, and obviously the influence for action sequences throughout the Avengers and Captain America franchises.

I grew up in Hollywood’s Joseph Campbell phase, when the best movies were built around his categories of the elements of myths. The hero’s journey, but with puppets in space. Just terrifically creative takes on classic archetypes, plus a solid dose of Orientalism.
