This is an awful story, down to the "trophy pictures" (reminds me of LASD) and battering down the family's door -- no one helps you fix your door! And if you have a front door, i assume you like having one in winter.

Good rule of thumb for friends is to imagine if China decided to start loudly discussing taking Hawaii, and how quickly you'd see red, and how unfunny you'd find it, and how belligerent your reaction to it would be. That is how Europeans and Canadians feel about this rhetoric from the US.

I’m not sure people outside the Twin Cites realize the prevalence and the fear ICE is causing in Twin Cities. They are dining undercover pretending to be couples at restaurants, they are going to businesses and checking the license plates of cars to find employees. Every public place is compromised.

Minneapolis and Saint Paul have basically mobilized into a war economy of mutual aid and non-violent defense. I’ve never seen anything like it, even during Covid. People who barely vote are guarding their schools from ICE and doing the shopping for neighbors in hiding.
This is so smart. I’m so impressed with all the different ways you’re helping your neighbors.

Um. We evacuated the Hmong from SE Asia because they were on our side there during the war. They are beloved in the Twin Cities for their exquisite needlework and fine cuisine in addition to being wonderful human beings.

This treatment is insanely wrong.

Wanna know something? Right before migrants get loaded onto an ICE removal flight, they return their gray jumpsuit and get deported in whatever they were wearing when captured. Have heard from many migrants that the planes are freezing and some shackled people are in summer tank tops and flip flops.

One product of the “war on terror” was parts of US public & political class accepting dehumanization of entire demographics labeled “terrorists.”

Factor in USG facilitating atrocities in Gaza.

Admin repurposed label for migrants & alleged narcos.

If you live in the Cities, an easy way to help immigrant families in hiding is: laundry! Laundromats are ICE magnets, so people without washers need help.

The People’s Laundry will drop off laundry to your door to wash and dry and pick up a few days later:

In legal settings, how evidence is gathered and processed often matters more than what it shows. Poor process can render strong evidence useless.

If people like Tim Walz ask citizens to document events, they inherit responsibility for defining where that material goes and how it is governed.

Calls for people to film events in Minnesota reflect good intentions, but intention without process produces unusable evidence.

Evidence collected for awareness & evidence collected for legal accountability are not the same activity. They require different standards, safeguards, and infrastructure.
This is going to make them even madder. Good.

Are you good at finding information online?

Keep records of the people trampling on rights & following illegal orders.

Grab their information. Keep records.

Alert people to bad actors, agitators and hostile media.

If you are not in an occupied city and have time and resources there are ways to support from afar.

Look to see what locals are requesting. Monetary support, time, etc.

When things are scary moving into action helps. You also meet lots of amazing people.
