The procession of university language closures will trip up UK diplomacy
The government needs to signal its demand for elite foreign language skills before more universities leave provision to inferior alternatives, says Ian Proud

Thinking about UK, misinformation crisis & attempts to sow distrust in expertise...
#BBC should stop chasing big audiences and offering 24 hr news, and return to what it was long valued for: reliability.
- fact-checked reports vs instant reaction
- grown-up science & research vs. edutainment

I really do think that a very strident investigation of Fartage (I do not mean that in a hurtful way) by the intelligence services is long overdue!
My attendance record in the European Parliament was the 4th worst out of 751 MEPs, yet I managed to turn up to vote AGAINST plans to tackle Russian misinformation.
Thankfully this is of no interest to the media.

Never fails to amaze me when something we’ve all know for decades - centuries - is suddenly announced as ‘new research’ and ‘news’!

The real story here should be ‘why do we build houses without drying cupboards as standard fittings?’

‘Brexit isn’t in the past. It is present in every overstretched council budget, every cancelled infrastructure project, every school without enough teachers, every struggling business wondering how to cope with higher costs and lower demand.’
Rachel Reeves says there’s a “hole” in the public finances.

A new decade-long Brexit study explains it:

a 6–8% hit to GDP – that's £180bn-£240bn a year – means less tax, less investment and less money for everything else.

Brexit made Britain poorer. Much poorer.
New: Boris Johnson’s ‘Brexit Titanic success’ was half right
Nearly ten years on, the first full assessment of Brexit confirms what millions warned: Britain made itself poorer
