Fun handle experiment was a success; back to something a little more normal.

"Wherever you get your podcasts" is more than a statement, it's a standard
if i can't listen via an rss feed it's not a podcast

I pretty much lived in the ”#teens” channel on Undernet 2003-2005. Even served as a channel op for a hot second. I will forever remember that unlike most other bots, Temple commands started with the ` character (backtick, not apostrophe)
Okay, let's get nostalgic

What was the VERY FIRST online platform that you became addicted to posting on?????

Just imagine this with like a funk instrumental or high-tempo rock music with gratuitous guitar distortion
In 2002 or 03 a Chicago public access cable channel aired this for at least a full half hour. No audio. I took a photo with a digital camera & that’s all the documentation I have. Anyone have any dirt?

Going back to email sounds really appealing right about now
this close to abandoning society and writing an email client

Whenever I share gift links (and whenever it is possible I do, so usually all my links are gift links) there are WITHOUT FAIL comments in the replies complaining that it is no longer free for them, and honestly it’s exhausting.

Apropos of nothing, I picked this bad boy out of my hockey skate bag tonight. The whistle needs some fresh tape on the end - it hasn't seen action in over ten years.

The Acme Thunderer lives up to its name.

This one is ... interesting. I'm not sure what to think about it.

Some people seem to find the notion that they share deep commitments to basic norms of liberal democratic government with their ideological foes to be somehow repulsive. I find it kind of thrilling. It gives me hope.

Love the intent, but Kara could have been more transparent about the intent or provided context like “this is what it could look like if more of us don’t speak up”

fresh baking, coffee, board games, people can come and go and hang out

we're the third space

Beautiful.
you ought to make a website. you ought to make it a canvas, a great irrigated field, a confessional booth. make it an amphitheatre, a private tea service with friends, a graveyard, a bedroom, the sunset light through shutters. you ought to make a personal website, make it carefully, make it home

This is genius. If balanced lines are like RAID 1, balanced lines distributed over multiple twisted pairs are like RAID 10.
Heh, for a while at some point I was using Cat 5, as had plenty of excess from a reel, with all the solids bonded together for one polarity and stripes for the other 🤣

You know, if more white people would have said “Black Lives Matter” in 2020 (…or 2013), I wouldn’t have to feel so uncomfortable saying this:

Now probably would have been a more appropriate time to say “all lives matter”.

FYI you yelling YOU MUST WATCH to any form of murder video or any violence to total strangers is a sign of your mental health deteriorating. We do not have to subject ourselves to trauma porn. Watching innocent people die on repeat will give you PTSD. Log off and call your therapist.

This is actually the perfect time for that conversation
“Do we have the inherent right to disagree with the government?” is a question almost every patriotic American can answer reflexively and yet we never have a conversation about how Trump’s answer to that question depends on whether he is in power.

I believe those of us who truly believe in freedom and dignity for all will soon have some allies (temporary or otherwise) that would have appalled a past version of us.

In this time, it's more important to take the W now and we can sort out what differences remain between us later.
