I know I need to do a “Hi, I’m Jen” intro post (and a more thorough one with links to stuff is coming), but…
Hi! I’m Jen! I make TV, video games, TTRPGs and actual plays, Shakespearean nerdiness, and also work in disability spaces, which means my work overlaps in MANY spaces.

Not just because I'm writing a book on #BattlestarGalactica, but damn I wish this show was streaming right now (it's not! this is Not Good). Partly bec it's MORE relevant than ever, partly bec it fucking rules, mainly bec Laura Roslin shouting "I'M COMING FOR ALL OF YOU" is now my entire personality

This is a great obit, and I appreciated Alice’s fight for Palestinians in Gaza being highlighted. I also want to give a shout out to Miles for asking permission to cite my post when technically you don’t have to do that re media law but still an ethical thing to do.

Alice's words and voice are everywhere. In her books, essays, articles, interviews, and media appearance. You don't have to go far to find them, and they will transport you to worlds beyond your imagining.

I will spend the rest of my life thinking and writing and talking about Alice, but my voice isn't what's needed right now. Her own words are, so here are some of them.

That’s Chekhov. In Ibsen you die while trying to impress a young woman. Or die by suicide. Or from syphilis. Or live, but are abandoned by the people you love most.

Alice Wong was a client of ours, and a long time twitter mutual and friend of our founder. There’s a sense in which we might not be here doing what we do were it not for the disability community Alice helped cultivate on twitter. We’re proud to have supported her work, and have had her support ours.

Thanks to everyone who watched our stream and everyone who donated. We raised a total of $890 for our various organizations, but it needn't stop there—our donation links will remain live indefinitely.

One of the great heartbreaks of being in the disability community is how often we lose people and how many of our most powerful voices have gone silent. We must live our lives loudly and joyously in their honor and remember that our very existence is resistance.
Oh no I just heard we lost Alice. This is terribly sad. She was an incredible, talented, powerful voice of the disability community. She stood strong for herself and for all of us. She will be missed immensely.
‘Death remains my intimate shadow partner. It has been with me since birth, always hovering close by. I understand one day we will finally waltz together into the ether. I hope when that time comes, I die with the satisfaction of a life well-lived, unapologetic, joyful, & full of love.’

what a gift it was to have @sfdirewolf.bsky.social as a friend in this life. her wisdom, her genuine care for her people, her thoughtfulness, her deep deep love for community. i am really not sure how the world keeps turning without her, but knowing her, she’ll figure out a way to keep us going.

We’re not doing “disability accommodations are unnecessary and unfair actually” discourse less than 24 hours after Alice Wong has passed. Absolutely the fuck not, even if it is a perfect example of the kind of shit disabled people have to deal with and why Alice’s activism was and is so necessary.

We recorded this months ago, and I was going to wait to share it bc of everything, but I just realized I talk about Alice’s work as part of the discussion on why and how I created Art Description, because none of my work happens without the influence of her brilliance and generosity of knowledge.

alice wong treated me as an equal from the moment she met me. i was a teenager with very little experience in the way of organizing; she was already a titan in this community. it didn't matter. she believed above all else that everyone, no matter how small, deserved to be treated as a future elder.

Losing Alice feels like the ground shifting beneath us—I'm devastated—but to have known & shared even part of this life with her was an honor. She was one of the most fearless, generous & visionary disability activists. It’s impossible to measure how much she shifted the world—I feel it everywhere.
I don’t want to formulate words yet, but my friend Alice Wong, @sfdirewolf.bsky.social of the Disability Visibility Project, has passed.
