I haven't seen them this excited to unleash state-sanctioned violence since the days after 9/11
Jesse Watters goes full bloodlust in response to Charlie Kirk's death: "Whether we want to accept it or not, they are at war with us. And what are we going to do about it? How much political violence are we going to tolerate? ... This is a turning point. And we know which direction we are going."

We don’t yet know what motivated the person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk, but this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy. Michelle and I will be praying for Charlie’s family tonight, especially his wife Erika and their two young children.

The core sadness and patheticness of Donald Trump would be really fascinating if he wasn’t destroying democracy worldwide to feed his ego.

Q for those w experience in politics or diplomacy:

Is there *any* other example of a US prez, on US soil, letting a foreign leader control the mic for a very long time, in his own language, w/o consecutive translation, before letting US prez say anything all?

I don't know of any.

Humiliating.

Just to hammer this in:

I don't know of an example in US history of comparable *in-person humiliation* for a US president. And of course for the country.

Trump will soon realize how visibly he was "owned." In view of the whole world.

There was quite a disruption to the Dirksen Senate cafeteria today. Israel is purposely starving all the people left in Gaza, especially the babies barring formula. There’s the three minutes that this app allows.

The best thing right now is to keep living your values and take care of yourself and others. The more caretaking we do now, the better for us all. Fascism is for losers. It's a short lived, violent disruption. Their time is up. 🥰
It's become clear that this administration is just a protracted war on anybody who's read a book without pictures in it. It's a miracle we're all still getting up and going to work every morning. The psychological drain is the point, and I'm increasingly grateful to the people who are still decent.

law professors have been unable to understand why people are actually concerned about this case. it’s not about nationwide injunctions per se, it’s about a court that waited until the issue hurt the GOP, and then intervened on behalf of one of the most egregious constitutional violations we’ve seen
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson called yesterday's decision about nationwide injunctions "an existential threat to the rule of law."

She's mistaken.

The rise of people like Lander and Walz, whose ideologies don't exactly match mine but have the exact right combination of "love thy neighbor" and "fuck you, asshole" attitudes, is massive positive for people who care about left of center politics

Waiting for news outlets and reporters to acknowledge that maybe, just maybe, reporting Trump's social media posts on foreign policy without confirmation is deeply irresponsible and an embarrassing failure of journalism.

This is why, when it comes to politics, cultural studies and political psychology are basically the whole ballgame. We have a huge number of people who are socially and emotionally incapable of being comfortable in a free and open society and we can't solve that by capitulating to their comforts.
I don't really know how you don't look at the rise of illiberal reactionaries as *the* defining political trend of the Western World right now. People are reacting to the confusion and chaos of modernity by going into hysterics and trying to burn it down. So far, they're succeeding.
i understand why biden thought MAGA was a temporary fever that the GOP could get over but i genuinely think that hypothesis has been falsified and we are now stuck with a world where there's a bunch of people raised to support illiberal rightist forces
