Thread by @jmetr22b.bsky.social with a pretty bleak courtroom story: a man accused of putting a hit on Greg Bovino withdrew his pretrial release motion today, after the possibility was raised that were he released, ICE might grab him.

A court entry today confirms the release motion's withdrawl.

I've been thinking about how CBP are the shock troops of the DHS sent out to soften up target areas for ICE. Seeing this same pattern in Chicago too.

Funny how I got banned from FB many years ago for threatening violence against Nazis. Not against anyone specific, just against Nazis in general and that was enough.
Instagram’s former head of safety and well-being Vaishnavi Jayakumar testified the company had a “17x” strike policy for accounts that engaged in the trafficking of humans for sex.

Engagement on our updates re: ICE kidnappings/fed siege of Los Angeles is significantly lower on Bluesky compared to Twitter. Do ppl on here not care about LA anymore? Are feeds being taken over by liberal commentators? What's going on?

Community members on the ground can't do it all. We need help.
The feds are escalating in Los Angeles. We've seen record high kidnappings and our communities are under attack. The media focus on LA has died down so electeds don't feel the need to even feign opposition.

People are out here fighting. We need all of us. Join the struggle. Defend your neighbors.

ICE sneaked into Chicago today, fortunately Rapid Response teams and other concerned community members were able to spring into action before more people were taken.
Greg Bovino may have moved on to Charlotte, but federal immigration agents maintain a presence in the Chicago area.

Northwest Side Rapid Response has confirmed agents detained at least one person around 9:45 this morning off Kedzie and Wabansia.

Kidnappings have slowed with CBP’s ramp-down, but rapid response, patrols, whistles, etc. all formed even before Border Patrol arrived.

Expect we’re going to see a return to quick abductions of people they’ve targeted and probably some opportunistically, when people are out during mild weather.

Alice reminded us that these bonds are world-making. They are the underground architecture that lets us survive a political order that treats disabled life as disposable. She insisted on holding disabled brilliance close, refusing the erasure capitalism demands.

Alice Wong taught us that disabled people don’t just leave memories behind—they leave infrastructure. Lineages of care. Methods of collectivity, survival. She named the connective tissue that holds our communities together, even across death, even across the losses that come too fast and too often.

I should add that there will definitely be a strong push to abolish ICE (and defund ICE will be coming from moderate voices) over the next few elections. And I predict that the Dem establishment will rather risk losing than to take that up on their national platform.
Besides local progressive Democrats who have taken a clear stance against ICE, establishment Democrats LOVE ICE and CBP and don't mind their more violent and chaotic tactics. They also like that they're not the ones catching all the flak for it.

As someone of Mexican heritage and a student of history, I believe it's a terrible idea to place back into power the very same political parties that allowed cartels to deeply entrench themselves over the several decades they held political power in Mexico.

If and when they get thrown out of power it won't because of the Dems. It will be because the good people of this land have had enough of the bullshit, my hope lies with them and I will beam a smile of a thousand suns when victory and freedom arrives.
If these people are ever thrown out of power, I hope we all understand there is no reformist pathway for institutions like this as much as Dems might desperately wish and claim there is.

Nothing against the largely religious and pacifist protestors that have shown up consistently outside the Broadview concentration camp but the time calls for a more militant approach towards aggression from local LE especially if the 600 or so people scheduled to be released aren't freed.
