If the federal government is behaving lawlessly and hurting so many people in so many ways, how about shutting the whole thing down for a while until enough Republicans in Congress agree to stop funding this behavior?
The arrests of Don Lemon and Georgia Fort underscore the gravity of this moment. This has never happened before in our history. We shouldn't pretend it's normal.

More reason for us to hold the line and demand a DHS budget that stops funding lawlessness.

Speaking of databases, two can play that game.

How about a Wiesenthal Center-style database for DHS, DOJ, and DOD personnel who've been violating civil rights and committing crimes, including crimes against humanity.

There must be accountability. Some of these crimes have no limitations period.

#LawSky Our profession must discipline and remove from the bar (and bench) lawyers who enable illegal government action by issuing specious opinions with no foundation in law. The DHS opinion is only the latest. (See also, Venezuela use of force; Bush II torture memos).

Orin is probably the preeminent fourth amendment scholar in the United States. He is also extremely professional. This is the way he says "I wish a bitch would try"
This DHS memorandum says that the DHS General Counsel's office has adopted a new position that the Fourth Amendment allows entry into the home to make an arrest just based on an administrative warrant.

I would like to see that argument.

Let’s join Minnesota and make it a nationwide shutdown.
Unions and community orgs are calling for a Minnesota-wide shutdown in 10 days to protest the ferocious assault by federal immigration agents. They're saying on Jan 23, no work, no school, no shopping. SEIU Local 26, UNITE HERE Local 17, & others are supporting, w/ more to join. By me, Amie Stager

For those inclined to make the same arguments as the dipshit I just blocked:
1: The US involvement in the overthrow of Hawaii was obviously illegal at the time, not just in retrospect.
2: If you need something to be "among the most" bad things we've done to get outraged, that's a you problem.
I'm not a fan of yesterday's "military misadventure," but I'm also writing from a state that was a nation before American business interests conspired with the American ambassador to secure the help of American Marines to overthow the government.

"Among the most"? Pressing 'f' to doubt.

I don’t think it’s a misallocation of energy to be mad at the Dems. In fact, I have plenty of energy to be mad at everyone:

Dems: Incompetent. In no way up for the fight.

Trump: What’s left to say? He’s the worst American who ever lived.

Trump voters: Self-pitying, mean-spirited, and uninformed.

The key to good legal writing is clarity. Exceptional clarity persuades. Unclarity sows doubt.

Not key? Originality. Humor. Cleverness. A distinctive voice. Torrents of peripheral legal authority. Demonstrations of opposing counsel’s stupidity and bad faith.

Edit for clarity.

Oh, yeah. If Dems get House+Sen+Pres job 1 is add 10 seats to SCOTUS and charge them with reviewing every Con-majority opinion starting with Citizens United.

Job 2 = uncap the House; 1 Rep per 50k people.

The Confederacy f’d around and found out. Don’t sleep on the productive liberals.
A certain kinda person really thinks macho vibes are what make for military success, and so thinks liberal states are bad at war. But rationalised logistics and immense productive capacity are actually very good at winning wars and liberal capitalist societies can martial those well and quickly.

alright here's a Take: checks and balances (and federalism) were supposed to protect against tyranny. But instead they just prevented a "tyranny of the majority" from doing universal health care and gun control, and it turns out they do basically nothing to stop an autocrat

Dems in Congress think everything's normal. It's not. One word describes them all:

Failure.

They've lost everything, and they're the first to point out out they have no power, that 215 Reps and 47 Senators is as good as zero.

So why keep any of them? Their experience in failure and excuses?
