It's always only been about power, not principle, this endless back and forth about "states rights" vs the federal power--ever since the ratification debates in 1787-89 and every generation since then. When slave owners dominated the federal power, they opposed state-level restrictions on slavery.
Wow.The basic pretense of the initial removal, flimsy as it was, was also not even grounded in fact.
🚨Judge Xinis finds that, incredibly, Mr. Abrego Garcia was never ordered deported in 2019. She notes that every since this saga began all the way back in March, the government has NEVER been able to produce any evidence that the immigration judge actually issued a removal order.

One major reason I left all my "friends" on Facebook. Blue sky is a compromise--social media has so reshaped the public sphere that it is necessary to keep a toe in the water just to stay aware (I wouldn't say informed). I get leads here, but to be aware of things I may want to track down elsewhere.

Parnia Abbasi was a 23-year-old Iranian poet who, along with her whole family, was killed this past June by Israel. I just translated an excerpt of her poem The Dying Star for my book. I have no idea if I'll get to use it in the book, but translating it made me cry, so I'd like to share it with you:
