I've been working with @waveparadigm.com, @littlenorwegians.bsky.social, and some friends to build the first of Calico's adventures, and I'm super thrilled with how it's coming along!

Hammering away at this framework has been incredibly fun so far. I'm finally getting to write some actual clean code and learned a bunch of stuff I never really thought about as well!

Implementing animation-based movement and motion warping was quite an interesting challenge, for example. 😅
I'll probably not be able to join the Metroidvania jam because my framework won't be quite ready in time, but that won't stop me from prototyping some fun stuff!

Working on a lock-on camera (kinda inspired by Kingdom Hearts 2) and implemented motion warping for root motion animations!

Fun Fact: when I started my last job at a gaming magazine, my ex-boss got a "concerned" call from a German EA representative because they didn't like how I handled my livestreams 🤡

Thankfully nothing happened back then, but stories like that really don't surprise me

Okay, so I haven't talked about it much, but I think the gameplay framework I've been working on is close to being in a usable state!
And while it may not look like much it does some really neat things, especially for its character controller!

Microsofts backends are so well made that even though I changed my name *everywhere* I could, their partner center still deadnames me lmao

Truly a marvel of software engineering.

And don't get me started on getting stuck on their login screen infinitely, because they can't even get *that* right.

I've been hard at work on my Unity game framework, since I really want to join the #MetroidvaniaMonthJam in 2 weeks and I love and hate what I've been cooking.
Love it, because it'll allow me to get started on new projects *real* fast.
Hate it, because I want all these nice tools for Lunistice 2.0 😭

*Personally*, I think it's kinda telling that out of the literal thousands of hours I put into Monster Hunter games as a whole, I spent only 50 in MHWilds.
I don't think any other game ever disappointed me this much.
Monster Hunter Wilds sold 10m copies at launch, but has since struggled, with just 160k copies sold during Q2. Older Capcom titles (Rise, DMC5) outsold it during this period.

Modern publishers rely heavily on strong back-cat sales, not just launch sales.

Krafton (PUBG, Subnautica, Tango Gameworks) says it is now an "AI first" company, with automated work, AI-centric HR, management systems, and workflows, in-game AI, and a full company-wide AI infrastructure.

This prototype has been really nice so far (and is a nice distraction when my brain can't manage to think about Lunistice 2.0).
I've been dabbling with more data-driven design for my code with this one (not using Unity ECS, though), so it's a really cool learning experience as well!
