Sick and tired of hearing Republicans say Alex Pretti was resisting.

Resisting what?

Being beaten? Pistol-whipped? Slammed to the ground and violently assaulted?

I'd like to see every Republican in Congress go through that and just lie there and take it.

Let's see how unresisting they would be.

In honor of Liam Ramos, the 5 year old detained by Ice, for the next 75 days, I will post one Democrat per day of the 75 who signed a letter expressing gratitude for ICE. We can and must do better. Everyone should know who these people are. #75icedems

Let's make sure our neighbors hear what's going on.

Be courageous & talk to people about #ICELawlessness.

Tell folks how you feel about the "Show me your papers" style loss of freedom in our country.

Don't forget all that was sacrificed for our freedom, nor the effectiveness of non-violence.

I grew up as a hippie-loathing, cynical Gen X music fan.

In my late 30s I faced the abyss of depression — and found the Dead.

Thank you Bob Weir, for helping me hop on the bus. My life's better for it.
How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Grateful Dead
I was once repulsed by the band’s music, fans, and hippie iconography—but at the lowest point of my life, I got on the bus and never looked back.

Take a look at this very good George Conway launch video here, for his campaign in the congressional district I grew up in.

I look forward to joining him as he campaigns on Broadway near Fairway, Zabar's, and Absolute Bagels. (I only do the West Side.)

"Two things have to happen in order for us to save the Republic from [Donald Trump]—first of all, accountability ... and the second is to pass laws and legislation within the four corners of the Constitution to make sure we never have this autocratic authoritarian threat again."

10 of the most beautiful, devastating, thought-provoking quotes from fiction. There is no rhyme or reason to the order, and there are at least four more parts.

Happy new year!

I love sharing this poem by @maggiesmithpoet.bsky.social.

I’m reminded this year of Audre Lorde: “These places of possibility within ourselves are dark because they are ancient and hidden; they have survived and grown strong through darkness.”

Remember: If we allow ourselves to fall into fatalism, or wallow in disappointment, or become resigned to what is rather than what should be, we will lose the long game.
The greatest enemy of positive social change is cynicism about what can be changed.

This is my favorite rendition of Auld Lang Syne, in part I think because it captures the bittersweetness that I've always thought was there, rather than the kind of maudlin, Hail-Fellow-Well-Met heartiness with which it's usually sung & performed.

(Also it's by Palmyra and I do dig Palmyra.)

How the clergy has rallied against the Trump administration's immigration policies
Religious leaders have rallied against the Trump administration's detention and deportation of immigrants. Clergy are filing lawsuits, accompanying migrants to court hearings and leading protests.
