Women felt empowered by #MeToo so instead of evolving and learning to respect boundaries bro culture surged and retaliated. Do I have this right? They couldn’t not rape, control and brutalize? Women lost reproductive rights within this Broligarchy. The real or perceived loss of control scared them.

Canada has had record breaking forest fires that show no signs of slowing down, let alone stopping, and Carney decides we can all stomach it so oil magnates can get more billions.

Wild how this article frames a full climate retreat as a friendly federal-provincial handshake. Alberta has spent a decade sabotaging the simplest climate policies in the country, and Carney’s response is to reward the obstruction by setting us back from meeting the Paris Agreement targets.

Is he playing her for the toddler she is? I don’t know. There’s a long timeline to any new pipeline and it may not happen in the end but the political capital that will be risked on Carney’s part (especially in BC) isn’t small.

This is the first Thanksgiving for Sophie & Colin Hortman without their parents, Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and Mark Hortman who were assassinated along with the family dog in an act of political murder. National guards troops were not deployed to the state in response.

Every Trump appointee is committed to ignoring the difference between holding a responsible office of the United States and being a partisan advocate hack. It's bad across the board, but it's catastrophically bad in the Attorney General, the Secretary of Defense, and the Directors of the FBI & CIA.

Ahead of launching a war on Venezuela, the US would like to announce that no one in Venezuela should help US forces, it'd be stupid to do so, the US will denigrate you and screw you over no matter how much you help, and blame you if even one Venezuelan who also helped the US ever does something bad.

Wrote this up on a comment thread at FB and decided to bring it over here too. Happy US Thanksgiving— or, as some of my Canadian friends call it, Yanksgiving, which is even more appropriate than they intend because it really is a Yankee holiday.

Weirdest day to be an American emigrant or expat.

It's a strange way to go about building national unity—agreeing with Alberta what should be built in BC without talking to BC about it.

Can't imagine the federal government taking this approach to a project that went through Ontario or Quebec.

I raised concerns about the lack of western representation in cabinet in general back in the spring (and lack of BC presence in particular). It raised the likelihood that the government might make miscalculations here, and I world suggest we're seeing that play out. bsky.app/profile/stew...
Looking at Carney's cabinet, there are 4 ministers from west of Kenora. In comparison, there are five from the Atlantic provinces. Puts a lot of pressure on Jill McNight, Gregor Robertson, Eleanor Olszewski, and Rebecca Chartrand to speak up for the western parts of the country at that table.

Specifically, I was worried about this. Without BC (and AB) and Indigenous voices around the table the government will be much more likely to overlook core considerations of each community. bsky.app/profile/stew...
Substantive: simply put, having people from different parts of the country make it more likely that cabinet will hear about the concerns particular to that part of the country/gender group/marginalized community. Fewer ministers from BC and the prairies makes it harder to capture those interests.
