Demanding gratitude when facing accountability is abusive behaviour. It has nothing to do with genuine gratitude and grace. It is about demanding an acknowledgment of the power differential and tokens of subservience as the price of forbearance.

There used to be a Spanish restaurant called Segovia on Yonge just north of Wellesley. Then it moved to St. Nicholas St. (practically an alley), one block west of its former location. It has been gone for about ten years now, I believe. It was a regular for my wife and I and is where we got engaged.
I'm gonna go back more like 30 years for this one, but in Toronto there used to be this burger place called Fatso's on St Clair West a couple of blocks west of Vaughan, and it had these giant messy cheeseburgers and the best onion rings I've ever had in my life. It's been gone for decades.

You cannot train people in job-specific tasks for future jobs. You don’t have the tools they will use and you don’t know what uses those tools will be put to.
The way we have always trained people for future work is to make sure they are literate, numerate, creative, and able to solve problems.

Accommodations don't do the work for you.
Something my son didn't really appreciate until he started meds is that meds don't do the work for you. Extra time on tests, doesn't do the work for you. Wearing glasses--the most widespread accommodation of all, so common that we don't even think about it--doesn't do the fucking work for you.
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

On Remembrance Day I think of Charles M. Schultz, who was a veteran and, because of this, a pacifist. As a symbol of this, he was absolutely fine with servicepeople making and wearing Peanuts fanart, but the only (semi)military institution he would allow to officially use his characters was NASA.

We blundered into a lot of problems because we were so impressed by the potential upsides of something that we didn't pay enough attention to the perils.
