Obviously this is all only true outside of Iceland: but with that caveat in place, it is very much true indeed.

Women in public life are still too often targeted over trivialities instead of being judged on their ideas and actions. It discourages talented women from entering politics. My thoughts in this weeks column: @scotsman.com www.scotsman.com/news/opinion...

Does anyone else ever go Christmas shopping for other people, see something, and think to themselves “You know who would love this? Me!” before promptly placing it in their cart?

Or am I just a selfish bastard?

Who posts demonstrable horsehit like this all over Facebook? Why? What is their end game? Why is it so hard to block all of this crap? How should they be executed?

Walk away. Defriend. Zero tolerance for racism - and anyone who starts a sentence like that, will always and unambiguously finish it with racism.

Intriguing, challenging and informing. For a century, the BBC has been our classroom, our concert hall, our stage, our storyteller and our window on the world. Politicians need reminding: its much more than a news channel.

Here, books and cables, certainly; plants and pottery, not so much - but the point is well made.
Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

I remain genuinely gobsmacked that this wasn’t picked up more. The Alex Jones who *repeatedly accused grieving parents of making up their children’s murders*.
Anyway, “after the news we’ll be joined by Nigel Farage & definitely won’t be asking him about any of this…”
On US TV shows and podcasts from 2009-18, Farage discussed supposed plots by bankers to create a global government, citing Goldman Sachs, the Bilderberg group and George Soros as threats to democracy. Included six guest slots with the disgraced far-right US conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

Farage can now be easily boxed in to a corner where his only ‘defence’ becomes: “Yes I spouted Kremlin propaganda & Putin worship but, unlike Nathan Gill, I didn’t need bribes to do it.”
It is, once again, a question of whether interviewers have the temerity to shut down his whining obfuscations.

We left more-or-less during the Truss month, surely the most tragically hilarious point - but only up to that point - of the country’s descent into a pit of weaponised ignorance and racist demagoguery.

We don’t quite reach that here at 64 north. To me it sounds utterly and unambiguously fantastic.
Are you bummed it’s getting dark out so early?

Spare a thought for those living in Utqiagvik, Alaska, 330 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Yesterday at 1:36pm local time, the sun set…and it won’t rise again until January 22. For 64 days, residents will be living in what’s known as polar night.
