Had a headache yesterday when planning a D&D session for 2 excitable kids, and had the genius idea of introducing an entity which shrieked in agony and caused 1hp of damage if they talked too loudly.
Hilarious session, carried out mostly in hushed whispers. Bliss 👍

This is a great read.
Also: important to realise that this industry has become *persistently terrifying* for your favourite devs, and that is no atmosphere in which to be creative.
Try to buy games, if you're able. Buy lots of games. Review and share them if you love them. Talk about them.

Sat down for a lovely chat with @clert.bsky.social over @eurogamer.bsky.social To talk about my games and how I'd like to keep making and improving them sustainably. To step away from the launch, meme and hype driven madness that has taken root in games.

What if you didn't have to spin the roulette wheel every time you released a new game, hoping for it to find an audience? What if there was a better way?

HOT TAKE: modern insistence that theres a 'right' way to design games is leading to homogenised cookie cutter games.
That's why every game you played in the 1990s was a weird, enchanting delight and everything now is a bit stale and makes you feel like you've played it before.

FWIW @steampowered.com the only acceptable way to announce Half-Life 3 is a specially commissioned issue of PCZONE that just carries on with news and reviews like it never died, and has an 8-page preview spread dedicated to HL3.
People should find out about this game at a newsagents imo.

Elon has never experienced this and neither have his biggest fans but now they can create these visuals with the help of a computermachine

Great, so if you're in Brazil and you want to buy a copy of GTA5 you have to own two copies?? This is such bullshit!
Don't feel sad for Take Two's shareholders over GTA 6 delay: GTA 5 has now sold more copies than the entire population of Brazil

At the self checkout it says "Would you like a receipt?" and if you press NO it says "Please take your receipt and bags" and it feels like that's the sort of thing that will get an indie game called "quite buggy" in Steam reviews.

perhaps the most egregious thing that happened with the Future Class was when The Game Awards took money from Old Spice in the name of the FC & simply... pocketed it
it wasn't used to fund Future Class initiatives, it wasn't used to help lift marginalised developers
they just profited from us

My GTA6 delay opinion is that though it will obviously be brilliant I think I'd actually much rather play a fun blocky indie take on the genre that's fun and on a GTAIII-sized map and is mostly about going really fast over ramps.

Went to the dentist, and explained that I'm writing some dialogue for a game.
"Just get ChatGPT to do it!" she said, cheerily.
I replied "And how would you feel if I brushed my teeth according to ChatGPT's instructions?"
"Um, it would probably be fine? Don't use it for facts"
Christ we're fucked.

Beat Absolum. Amazing game, 10/10. The only issue is that late game 2-player with loads of effects and characters on screen becomes *impossible* to keep track of where you are. Not sure what the solution to that is tbh.
Anyway, delighted to see there's more to do after beating it. Prob GotY for me.
