This is not what I'm saying. Those games were perfectly playable at the time, because we played through them and had a great time doing so.
The issue is that devs are conforming to the "correct" way to design games in order to minimise negative Steam reviews, and that's leading to homogenisation.

I think this is it. From a Dev side it 100% makes sense to use established standards, because it'll lead to fewer confused players and fewer negative reviews.
