I've been struggling with productivity and balancing a bunch of different spinning plates this week.

The good news is today has actually has been quite good. The bad news is that it turns out setting out structure with timetables for the day like you're back in school actually works.

Filling out a form which requires me to to list everywhere I've lived in the past 7 years. Which turns out to be a 6 places.

Renting was fun, you guys. 🫠

Genuinely had forgotten some of these addresses too.

I often think about how one of my first stories for ZDNet back in 2016 was about a ransomware attack against a County Council with a ransom demand of £500.

Almost a decade later and the financial - and real world - impact of ransomware has just got much worse.
Extraordinary day and historic for the wrong reasons - a cyber attack featured in the GDP figures

Woke up everyone in the house yelling at this as it happened on the TV. I was 8 years old. 🥲
#OnThisDay in ’94, in the season-ending #AusGP at Adelaide, Damon Hill was cynically nerfed out of the #F1 drivers’ world championship by Michael Schumacher. 😔

I'm feeling bad and guilty about having not being very productive with actual work today. But on the other hand I've put out a couple of posts across social media which are gaining good traction and isn't that the real victory?

(No, it's completing commissions to get paid...)

I had to use a VPN to submit my PhD thesis to the university repository.
The British government admits it is now monitoring VPNs use by UK residents. Regulator Ofcom has contracted with an AI-powered surveillance service to detect the number of citizens using VPNs to evade the Online Safety Act.

The UK tech minister has said a VPN ban is on the table.

Once again, I am asking the powers that be to have a basic grasp of how the Internet and actual online safety works. It isn't VPNs which are putting people at risk...

I, a journalist/writer type, get social media ads suggesting I apply to join the intelligence services on an alarmingly regular basis.

But anyone who has met me would likely agree that I'm too hapless and weird to be a spy. (Or AM I?👀)
Tbh It would be really embarrassing to have a whole infamous spy agency and then be defeated in military operations by a reporter. Zero offense or Bellingcat.
Russian state media are today alleging that a Bellingcat reporter was involved in an attempt to hijack a Russian fighter plane.

We would like to make clear that Bellingcat had absolutely no involvement in the alleged activities and the accusations towards us are entirely false.
