in most cases you run into problems anyway once you hit a pronoun, but for short sentences you can get away with it, which is often all you need (and otherwise of course you can lie, which is always okay to avoid outing yourself naturally)

it's funny as a queer person trying not to prematurely out yourself that there are different strategies in different languages. e.g. German with 'Freundin' leaves it vague whether it's your girlfriend or just a female friend, whereas Danish 'kæreste' specifies the relationship, but not the gender
