A cool thing about digging through old papers is that you see things that confirm their moment, like the style of telephone in this 1922 cartoon, and it's reference to prohibition... but also there are things to check out. Was "wiff" slang at the time, or just a slip on writing "wife"?

One of the most beautiful things about the Irish is their respect for the arts. You find live music at most bars, I went to a literary pub crawl & saw monuments & museums dedicated to writers, poets, musicians, etc.
They understand the value of supporting artists & I wish Canada did, too.

It's Kathleen Stock all over again, isn't it? Someone with immense privilege behaves hatefully, gets pushback from victims, embarks on an 'I've been cancelled' tour, supported by the whole British media establishment, and the victims get shat on all over again.
A white journalist at a white BBC has made what looks like a hit piece about a white writer charged with racism by a number of writers of colour. The twist? The BBC attacks the writers of colour.
Solidarity with all Black and Brown people fighting to be treated with dignity. Screw the racist BBC.
