Media is so compromised. An otherwise really good (and sobering) CNN piece on overtourism can’t help but slip a link to a puff piece, also in CNN, singing the praises of one of the budget airlines it’s criticizing here. amp.cnn.com/cnn/2025/08/...
‘They don’t want the rabble anymore:’ Why Europe is rising up against mass tourism | CNN
2025 has been Europe’s summer of discontent, with locals protesting overtourism everywhere from Tenerife to the Louvre. As destinations take action to stem local anger, is the sun setting on mass tour...

The thing about the Khalil case is that it's very very good that he's free now but you can't have it take three months between "the government kidnaps you off the street for no basis reason whatsoever" and "a judge makes them let you go." You just can't.

The disparity btwn what’s actually happening in Los Angeles and the way it’s being mischaracterized is one of the biggest stress tests of modern media in recent memory. Botted socials, AI, old clips, declining literacy—it’s like seeing a broken emergency response system hit by a storm.

The reason why protest is essential to political change is that only when people *see* the scale of discontent do they realise they are not alone, and that the tide can turn.

Trump was always going to spend his second term screaming "They're stealing our MOON CANDY!" then crashing the global economy because of the ghosts in his brain, but it might have helped if so many media outlets hadn't run "Here's what your share of a Moon Candy seizure might look like!" stories

Ahh, the tried and true “I’m rubber and you’re glue” deflection technique
Not surprising but absolutely wild to go on stage and blame bad things on a nefarious billionaire who is pulling on the puppet strings of politics while you are the richest man in the world who is on stage because he's spending millions trying to influence an election!

'Astroturf': Critics speculate Tesla protests are not a grassroots movement, but carefully organized campaign
Anti-Tesla protests over Elon Musk's DOGE role are embroiled in "astroturfing" speculation, which is understood as a campaign "falsely made to appear grassroots."

Our economy is far larger than it was decades ago.

Where have most of the gains gone? To the top.

Any path forward must include a fight to restructure the economy toward more widely shared prosperity.

This isn’t a blue state vs. red state phenomenon. It’s a class phenomenon.

Allowing a government to decide who violated the law without due process is an invitation to tyranny. This is basic, basic Founding Fathers stuff.
Indiana Rep Spartz (R): “You violated the law, you are not entitled to due process.”

Dangerously ignorant. 🇺🇸

The Trump regime will round you up off the street and arrest you because you spoke your mind.

And federal agents in plain clothes and unmarked cars who refuse to identify themselves will be the ones to do it.

It's fascism.

Call it what it is.

Hear that? No ruckuses! We are a no-ruckus country! Founded on no-ruckus principles! Give me liberty but hold the ruckus! (PS - #teslatakedown 3/29)
Even if you accept the premise and decision, which I absolutely do not, it is the simplest thing to phone the visa holder, tell them their visa is revoked and say they have a month to leave the country. Accosting someone on the street like a kidnapping is just a spectacle of terror.
Marco Rubio on Rumeysa Ozturk: "We revoked her visa ... once you've lost your visa, you're no longer legally in the United States ... if you come into the US as a visitor and create a ruckus for us, we don't want it. We don't want it in our country. Go back and do it in your country."

It's critical for everyone to remember what an Executive Order is. It is the President communicating orders to members of the executive branch. Policies to pursue, actions to take, etc. They are not laws. They are not close to being laws. They are formalized memos to employees. That's all.

For those who say protest doesn’t work, Tesla stock is plummeting, Tesla sales are crashing and many Tesla owners can’t offload their cars quick enough.
