This is absolutely American shit and white people in this country really need to be honest with themselves about what "America" is.
An 18yo US citizen, surrounded by eight masked, armed agents of the state, taken into custody, not read his rights, not offered a chance to contact a lawyer, proof of citizenship ignored, handcuffed so tightly he later required medical attention.

Profoundly, profoundly anti-American shit.

I don't think enough was done to define "safe space" outside of 900-word think pieces. Nor was there enough to explain to bald white dudes that their idea of being "challenged with tough questions" was just having white dudes repeat the same racist bullshit they always have.

We laugh, but everybody's white friend has an uncle injecting this in their veins and getting ready to shoot the next Black person they see minding their own business.

Has anybody just ask republicans point-blank about why they're trying to starve school children? Like, I know it's because they don't want anybody to be educated so corporations have a permanent cheap labor source, but...why can't anybody else get them to just say it?

There’s a young southern woman on tt doing an experiment: calling churches & asking if they can help her get baby formula, saying she can’t afford it. Of the 30+ she’s called, nearly every church has said no. The ones who said yes were:

Black Baptist Churches
A Mosque
A small Appalachian church

One of the things I think the tech community missed out on was creating networking opportunities for things other than javascript. One of the things I think the javascript community did that was actually useful is creating spaces for people to connect easily. No such thing in backend or embedded.

We found more than 170 incidents since the start of Trump’s second term. Americans have been kicked, dragged and held for days without access to lawyers.

This doesn't surprise me, and Fox is also not going to report that white people are the largest cohort of SNAP recipients.
Fox News has “corrected” a piece about videos of Black women complaining about losing SNAP benefits, finally pointing out that they were AI-generated. Since these videos don’t involve real people, I imagine there’s little liability for so-called “news outlets” reporting racist AI propaganda as fact.

Ok so the reason for that is Microsoft is one of the largest defense contractors in the country. They also hold the JEDI contract for the DoD's "war cloud". Trump originally wanted amazon to get it.

That's why they're so quiet. They will not be rocking this boat.

As awful as he was in so many ways, it is impossible to imagine Ronald Reagan posting a video of dumping excrement on American protesters. Some of my students don't even realize that this is a departure from discursive norms.

Yeah, this is what I wrestle with -- a college freshman today was only nine when Trump first ran for president. They've grown up with him as a baseline, not an aberration.
It's odd for me to realize that my first-year undergraduates are at an age where they don't really remember that there was a form of US politics prior to Donald Trump. For them, Trump is not an aberration from the normal course of political discourse, but just how US politics is done.
