This is why we need a new, nonprofit or cooperative model for news. We can't base our sources of information on the goodwill of billionaires (or sadly, on our own government).
According to recent estimates, Jeff Bezos makes about $8m an HOUR

In ONE SLEEP he probably makes enough to cover the Washington Post's annual losses

ICE is making Minneapolis so unsafe that you can’t let your kids go outside unaccompanied. They might be snatched. It’s like a Gen X childhood admonition about strangers made real.
A teenage boy was walking home in Minneapolis yesterday when four masked men jumped out of a van & questioned him - with no parent or guardian present.

He was bundled into the van & taken away.

Bystanders heard the boy say: “Can I just go home?”

I don’t know how America comes back from all this.

some people love quoting "the strong do what they can and the weak suffer what they must." That was Athens saying that at the height of its empire. Few of those people seem to remember what happened to Athens the very next year.

NEW: @patrickwyman.bsky.social has a history podcast not on great leaders, but more common folk. The theme for this season? World slavery:

“Power is inseparable from labor. Power is inseparable from work. Slavery, studying it, what it tells us, is just how inseparable those two things are.”

My theory that anyone with an ounce of charisma and three diet cokes can convince Trump of anything holds true
Q: would you feel comfortable living in NYC under a Mamdani administration ?

TRUMP: I would. I really would.

A reporter asks if Mamdani stands by calling Trump a fascist. Mamdani starts to give a delicate answer.

Trump (smiles, pats Mamdani's arm): "That's OK, you can just say yes. It's easier. I don't mind."
