@chrislintott.bsky.social Hi Chris, apologies for the question, but is there really a supernova only 3 light years away from us? Closer than Proxima Centauri?

I have never before contemplated the subject, but after last night's rewatching of 'Star Trek: First Contact' I am happy to announce that this one is my favourite of the Shatner/Steward films. IV and VI come close, but this one's just (almost) perfect.

There. I said it.

In some strange way I find these images very hopeful.

The news is so grim it feels like we are hurtling towards an abyss.

But, look!

Thousands of years ago our forebears also loved their hot beverages, obviously in company, with beauty in mind.

We are all the same.
Something lovely for the weekend!

Reading early Kim Stanley is like a grounding tonic. The introspections, the sponging, the group baths, the geological observations. It’s the perfect way to find deep relaxation.

For the record, Robin Ince is a superb comedian, an absolute mensch, a remarkable thinker and the kindest human you’ll ever meet. And the BBC is a genuinely great and globally unique institution that needs to stop being afraid. I think that’s where most of its faults and issues stem from.

Hey @gwr.com. Today I had a lovely chat with Jonny who did the trolley service on the 14.54 from Castle Cary to Paddington. With his car out of action, he walked 2hrs from Burnham to Slough at 2am to start his shift. Many would have thrown a sickie, probs me included. You have a hero in your ranks.
