Just hear me out: maybe the Democratic Party’s problem is that the party leadership is full of people incapable of realizing that Matt Yglesias has terrible political instincts.

It is *lunacy* for the ostensibly liberal opposition party to say we shouldn't limit any individual's wealth and power after watching a cadre of fascist billionaires systematically destroy this country. That's probably the single most important thing we *must* do!

This is a huge part of why so many people think we're in the middle of a widespread "anti-woke backlash": Small movements opposed to social progress are collected into trend stories by conservative media. Far larger movements that want more diversity are ignored or cast as threats.
"Woke is ruining D&D". Meanwhile Dimension 20, one of the wokest real play shows around, just sold out Madison Square Garden and the Hollywood Bowl for live shows and brings armies of new players to RPGs.

Even by the standards of anti-woke journalism this is lazy dreck. The first piece of "evidence" that older gamers are mad about wokeness is a random Reddit comment — that isn't a complaint about wokeness.

The second day of every month should be a national holiday for rent hangover, where you spend the day thinking about how much you just paid in rent, throwing up, etc

this headline, and much of the reporting, is the result of believing that the key to good journalism is never taking a position
NEW: The F.D.A. announced in an internal memo that 10 children died "because of" the Covid shot. Other experts want to see proof.

“This is a profound revelation,” Dr. Prasad's memo said. “For the first time, the U.S. F.D.A. will acknowledge that Covid-19 vaccines have killed American children.”

i guess you hope for a sense of shame that you know isn't there

The very high up executives where I work used AI to create videos of themselves as superheros running a spaceship and proudly play it to us at am event thinking it explains how they've done a good job this year. It's beyond parody and a waste of everyone's time.

I’m very unhappy about the aggressive AI upscaling in the Beatles Anthology on Disney Plus. It’s added a whole extra Beatle! Who the fuck is “George”?

The billionaires who own much of the the infrastructure of our 21st century lives have progressively enshittified that infrastructure while expanding their wealth, and then they scold us for being small-souled peasants who don’t believe in progress anymore.
it is amazing how so much tech gets unremittingly worse year on year at whatever you once used it for and less pleasant to use and more bound up with creepy politics as well as personal and environmental harms and yet also still less productive of actual goods and these are somehow great visionaries

The adoption of “lethality” as a macho yet evasive way of saying “killing people” has really been a sight to behold
Markwayne Mullin: "The president and the secretary of war have been very clear. They're gonna use lethality against our enemies -- home and abroad."

"Never spread the lie in the headline" should be a hard rule of 21st century journalism.

Research shows that repeating lies helps to spread them, and people read headlines more than they read stories.
News media has to do better with headlines that present false and unverified public health claims.

I can see why An Taoiseach would conveniently ignore Herzog's role in the Nakba

After all, acknowledging it might require acknowledgement of the Irish State's complicity in the destruction of Palestine

Which we've been busily laundering since the late 1990s

Taoiseach says 'divisive' proposal to rename Herzog Park should be 'withdrawn in its entirety'
Micheál Martin said that scrapping the name would erase the Jewish community’s “distinctive and rich contribution to Irish life”.

This is about the United States of America. Somebody wrote this about the United States of America.
We went from a country that defended others from being invaded for their natural resources, to a country that is now threatening to invade others for their natural resources.

Systems of governance are only as good as the people you elect to uphold them.
