Very interesting work (per the norm) by @goldwagnathan.bsky.social bsky.app/profile/airs...
An issue with LEGEND OF KORRA is that it knows what it's opposed to, but it never actually makes an argument for liberal democracy, as @goldwagnathan.bsky.social points out here.

I think that’s right. I thought TLJ was 1/4 brilliant & 3/4 utter garbage that really killed my interest in the next film. That said, Disney reacted in the worst way possible & TRS is so dumb it’s not even worth talking about as a film—only the creation of it is interesting
I think you could make an argument, by the way, that the release of The Last Jedi was the last time (at least prior to the release of Andor S2, at least) when the popular mood about a Star Wars release was humming, palpable excitement
What's grimly funny about this is that, in a lot of ways, these fashy/outrage-grift campaigns against The Last Jedi were killing the golden egg. On top of clearly panicking Disney, they poisoned the (never totally sane) online mood about Star Wars in ways that hurt a lot of subsequent projects

Still one of the best pieces I read post Nov last year: www.liberalcurrents.com/a-disease-of...
A Disease of Affluence
Trump's supporters are not motivated by economic anxiety, but by its opposite.

I often think Matt Bruenig has a stupid view of American politics (his political analyses in 2016 were mind-bogglingly stupid & ahistorical), but one thing I have never thought is that he has a stupid view of policy. This was a wonderful article: www.peoplespolicyproject.org/2025/12/05/w...
Why Do People Feel Like They Are Falling Behind?
A different way of understanding arguments about single-income mid-century families.

Great job, @schumer.senate.gov. You've changed the story from "GOP hurting millions of Americans to please unpopular, failing, delusional despot who's destroying his party" to "Dems are too weak and divided in the face of Trump's strength to take a stand and protect Americans"

@schumer.senate.gov resign! You have failed as leader and the deal just agreed to is worthless.

It’s funny. Nine yrs ago if told I’d grow to love &respect the writings of David Klion, David Atkinson, & Ryan Cooper & grow to be profoundly disillusioned & disgusted by Jeet Heer & Matthew Yglesias & rather disappointed in Ezra Klein, Id never have believed it. But the former have learned & grown.

Apart from George W. Bush & Donald Trump, the most evil men in US politics for the past 25 years have been Ralph Nader, John Roberts, James Comey, Stephen Miller, & RFK Jr.

Merrick Garland & Jill Stein deserve (dis)honorable mentions as well. The former 7 caused great evil, these 2 only allowed it
