1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.

Hundreds of kids are still detained.

We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵

A bit of good news, though I wonder whether schools will actually resume the DEI initiatives they abandoned, and I wonder whether that kind of un-enforced, fear-based capitulation was the administration's end-game all along.

Trump administration drops legal appeal over anti-DEI funding threat to schools and colleges
The Trump administration is dropping its appeal of a federal court ruling that blocked guidance telling K-12 schools and colleges they'd lose federal money if they kept a wide range of practices the a...

I've read most of the scholarship about US policing since the early 20th century. What you learn from this is that violence is inherent. You cannot "separate" out violence from policing. Police in the U.S. are violence workers.

Prison guards are flocking to ICE jobs and frankly this makes sense. Those of us who have been anti-prison organizers for decades have been saying that fascism already existed within prisons/jails. Our best teachers for how to survive fascism are incarcerated people.

No one is "personally responsible" for policy change. People can contribute greatly but we need to DEAD the idea that a single person is ever responsible. It's unhelpful and it's also not how change happens.

It's a great cosmic joke that neurodivergence both runs in families and gets diagnosed based on parent reports. I was diagnosed at 30 because a man who has eaten potatoes every day for 57 years and a woman who collects loose buttons decided I was a perfectly normal child.

The value of reading history is you know that in 1860 there were abolitionists who were so demoralized that they thought chattel slavery would be permanent. 5 years later those still alive had lived to see its end.

It's Prison Banned Books Week — a week dedicated to shining a light on the widespread denial of incarcerated people's freedom to read.

We all have a First Amendment right to read and receive information, in and out of prison. Censorship has no place in a democracy.

3. I'm professionally and academically well-versed in AI, and have concluded that generative AI and LLMs are incredibly harmful.
There are basically only two positions in the debate about AI.
1. I’ve barely invested any time in learning how to use it effectively. AI sucks.
2. I’ve invested in learning how to use this tool. Holy cow, it’s transformational.

Position #1 has lower barriers to entry.

I’m horrified by Trump’s order to send 300 National Guard troops to Chicago. We’re only nine months into a four year term and already the president is trying to invade an American city. If you’re in the Guard, you can and should refuse these orders.
