Chuck Dixon created Bane. I don't bring this up to argue that creating that character somehow negates his current behavior, but to talk about a problem very prevalent in comics. And that is bigoted people making bank off the very marginalized groups they later demonize and discredit.

in 2018, the Congo Masks exhibit was here at the VMFA and all throughout, there were placards explaining the practices of destroying masks to return them to earth and creating new ones when needed. and in fine print at the end of the exhibit, the weakest acknowledgment of "yes the masks are stolen"
