ah we are in the transitional phase between left wing ideas being rejected as ridiculous out of hand and “uh… and how fast can you do that please?”
🗣️ "We need a state construction company," says People Before Profit–Solidarity TD Richard Boyd Barrett.
"How many years would it take to set that up?" asks guest host Fionnán Sheahan.

If you've got a view of the northern lights where you live and esp if you live alone, it is an excellent idea to turn off all the lights in the house other than a small one in the room where you're reading, sit by a window when the sky lights up, and read this. It won't be remotely creepy. At all.
Happy one-year publication anniversary to The Taiga Ridge Murders! It's still among my favourite books of the nearly seventy I've written. eBook and print available:

Apropos of absofuckinglutely nothing in my timeline at the moment, I wish to a somewhat unreasonable degree that artists would stop drawing Gambit with a cigarette.

oh this, and the nested threads, like...

Never mind "we need to write tv/books/movies/whatever for people who are scrolling their phones at the same time", this explains A LOT.
ever since I learned about three-cueing I've developed infinitely more patience for replies on social media. mfers literally do not know how to read. people are walking around conjuring random meanings into words they don't know, and they don't know a lot of words. it's crazy

Student: But English isn't my first language!
Me: I know. And so do they. Get a friend to check your grammar if necessary. A few errors on a paper in college won't kill you, either.
Student: ... bad grammar is better?
Me: You’re asking if bad grammar is better than the cheating machine?
Student: Oh.

I did about 900 words on the other thing I need to work on, for ~3400 words yesterday. Today I'm going to do more of that & hopefully finish what I need to do on it, then try to synopsize the last section of the main project so I have a real roadmap. :p

Retreat wordcount so far: ~19k (18.5 useable)

yes yes we all know about the Edmund Fitzgerald, rest her soul, but did you know about the ship laden with explosives that sank in the mouth of the Thames in 1944 and could explode at any minute and which attempts to disarm keep failing

Seriously, does anyone have a cure for executive dysfunction that isn't making lists, setting timers, promising treats, or cenobites threatening indescribable agonies? Because I am *this* close to picking up my LeMarchand Box. #audhd

The door handles here are very stiff with useless grips: thin lines around the round handle. It's hard to open the doors, is what I'm saying. Twice now I've put lotion on my hands & then tried to open one & it's been physically impossible. I've had to wash the lotion off to get the door open!

I only managed 3k of useable words and some brainstorming yesterday, so my wordcount has only dropped by a hundred or so. Minimum wordcount for today is 1170, or...if I put the anticipated count for the book to a closer-to-reality 80K...1885.

1170 is a much nicer number. 😭

I made a tactical error in preparing for this trip.

(actually I made SEVERAL, but we're focusing on just the one now o.o)

So usually retreats are very...low-sweat, shall we say. They involve a lot of sitting & not much exercising. So I usually bring 3-4 outfits I can recycle over the week.

And they rang that bell today, 31 times. For the 29 on the Edmund Fitzgerald, one for all Great Lakes shipwreck victims, and once for Gordon Lightfoot.

One more skeet for Edmund Fitzgerald Day. Behind this historical marker is the famed Whitefish Bay. Today the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum in Paradise, Mich., rang the recovered bell 31 times, 29 for the victims of the wreck, once for all Great Lakes shipwreck victims, and once for Gordon Lightfoot.

It's not raining, so I'm going to go for a very short walk before getting down to work. Oh, & shoot, I have to make soup for lunch...
