In 2009, when I was a PhD student, I think even I could have gotten my hands on a ten grand loan from somewhere. Why on earth couldn't Peter Mandleson, literally a government minister, borrow ten grand from somewhere other than Jeffrey Epstein?

Labour trying to consolidate the left wing vote by being right wing. to be fair it's the only thing they know how to do: policy based on prejudice, ignorance and fear not evidence, expertise and compassion.

For that you have to vote Green.

Industrial fishing, climate change and offshore drilling are destroying marine ecosystems.

And only 3.1% of the global ocean is fully protected.

This week, I joined @greenpeaceuk.bsky.social on their ship The Witness to support the campaign to protect 30% of the world's oceans by 2030.

Please spread this far and wide, as stories don't get much bigger than this. When the government blocks even the intelligence services from telling us we're heading for environmental catastrophe, you know we have a problem. A very big problem.
Thank you.

The UK government didn't want you to see this report on ecosystem collapse. I'm not surprised | George Monbiot
It took an FOI request to bring this national security assessment to light. For ‘doomsayers’ like us, it is the ultimate vindication, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

As a news organisation the #BBC really is completely shot. R4 6pm news last night, a longish section on Burnham and the G&B by-election, followed by Chris Mason riffing on the same. Not one mention of the Greens. Even the Times gets it better, reporting Lab insiders fearing they may come third.

At a time of growing political instability and jeopardy, rejoining the EU isn’t an academic issue or one borne of nostalgia. It’s a matter of political necessity.

All this talk of Burnham magically rescuing this Labour parliament seems a bit giddy. Like an adolescent gone giggly on their first Prosecco, it’ll just lead to a hangover.

I think part of the reason everyone is so blown away by this Carney speech is it's so long since we heard an actual grown-up articulate serious thoughts about the world. Empty vessels have been making a lot of noise
Mark Carney's speech really is terrific: full text is here and very much worth your time.
