Starting to think that we should sort out a general agreement on trade and tariffs, perhaps housed under some sort of world trade organization. Let's keep the region strong with some kind of of north american free trade agreement. Perhaps a trans pacific partnership could soften China's influence.

DOGE cut off payments for the electricity, cell phone, and internet service of U.S. government employees who work in a high-risk area in Central America.

Meanwhile, DOGE apparently plans to spend $25,000 to install a washer and dryer for their own personal use in a federal office building in DC.

Being a historian, people ask me if I think the US is living through Germany 1933.

I answer no, analogies are always imperfect but to me it feels more like Russia 1999: a blatant theft of state assets and liberals in a fugue state, refusing to believe the arc of progress is bending against them.

the good folks at @haymarketbooks.org are releasing a paperback version of Reconsidering Reparations, April 1st, with a beautiful new cover courtesy of Steve Leard. some dismal parts of the latter chapters have aged unfortunately well - but look forward to discussions about it in today's context

1) The letter is not legal

2) Do not comply in advance!
If colleges comply with this letter by the Trump administration, all affinity orgs, affinity graduation ceremonies, and cultural centers funded by the schools could be forced to be shut down before the end of the month.

aww thx for the compliments @profsecchi.bsky.social ...I am super excited to see this in print - it is a new area of research for me and digging into all the great critical legal scholarship on property and all the work on settler colonialism was sooo educational. So much good work being done! 🔥
Hot of the press some great work from @carlynich.bsky.social.
I am so heartened by seeing important critical work about the US agricultural system from a new generation of scholars. There has been so much middling scholarship about American farming and farmers, we need this fresh air!
