Once again, it turns out “fully autonomous” means “a guy in the Philippines.”

was epstein uniquely responsible for evil or is he just the one obscenely wealthy person whose emails we're getting to read
“Notorious pedophile Jeffrey Epstein played a role in convincing Bobby Kotick to embrace loot boxes, essentially gambling for children” what is this sentence, what is this world

My ISP blocked standwithminnesota.com this morning stating it was a “spam risk”. It has since been unblocked, so now I need to donate just to thumb my nose at AT&T.

I ran into a former coworker at the veterinary ER today and it’s very weird to catch up with someone who’s clearly been crying about her sick cat while your dog is being stitched up after being mauled. Like “hey, this absolutely sucks and everything is terrible but how are you?”

The horrors persist, so I made soup. Black eyed peas and spinach with dill and lemon, adapted from a recipe in the most recent @ranchogordo.bsky.social email. Comfort food tonight, then contacting my representatives.

I’m so glad I did this today. My first birds were a Nuttall’s Woodpecker and a Golden-Crowned Sparrow being annoyed that my feeder was empty. On my dog walk I saw a very damp Red-Shouldered Hawk and a hovering Black Phoebe. Birds are a joy.
Happy New Year friends! If you’re so inclined, join me in paying attention to the first bird you see on the first day of the new year, something I started doing 6 years ago

I’ll take this as not naïveté, but as it takes strength to have hope in the face of the horrors.

“Revenge Bedtime” solo game. It’s time for you to go to bed. Roll a d20. On a nat 20, go to bed. On any other number, do something else. Repeat every time you think “I should go to bed”.
I need everyone to make a shitpost game that fits into at most 3 posts on here before the end of the year otherwise thr sun will not rise again
Not enough shitpost games though

“Outside”. You work from home. The dog is asking to go outside. Does he actually need to pee or does he just want to play? Solo version: go outside and flip 1 coin for dog (heads for play, tails for pee) & 1 coin for your mood (heads for happy you’re taking a break, tails for annoyed).

What's ominous is all of the trusted women of color who know a lot about AI are saying that a crash is on the way and the white guys are pretending they are taking it to the moon. This means that a crash is definitely on its way.

The local news aired a segment this morning about how supposedly more people are asking “A.I.” for Xmas gift ideas and truly from the bottom of my heart I say to these people JUST GET A FUCKING GIFT CARD IF YOU CAN’T BE BOTHERED TO KNOW YOUR LOVED ONES

Because 2025 continues to kick me in the teeth, I’m starting chemically induced menopause Friday and then next week I’m traveling to the Midwest to see my grandma who just broke her hip. This year can go fuck itself.

Every place I have worked is only able to continue functioning thanks to one Excel workbook. AI is useless.
My company recently unveiled in-house AI tools. Management's encouraging everyone to use them (to justify the probable eyewatering costs)

Meanwhile the database that everyone does constantly use is held together with gum and the development team's tears
A study by Dayforce shows 87% of executives use AI for work, compared to 57% of managers and just 27% of employees.

I think this explains the massive disconnect we see in how CEOs talk about AI versus everyone else. It also raises the question of how useful it truly is for frontline work?

If you’re not up for the whole Thanksgiving thing, that’s okay. There’s been 2 deaths and 1 TBI in my family in the last 8 weeks plus my own health issues. Not to mention the exhaustion from the state of everything. I can’t be arsed to make a turkey Thursday. Lasagna is as good as it gets.

The New York Times obit for Alice Wong doesn’t mention Covid or Gaza

It ignores two of her biggest causes because of political bias

Alice fought tirelessly for Covid mitigations

She fought for the people of Gaza

She rightfully reminded us that the genocide in Gaza is a disability justice issue
