Letting myself feel a tiny sliver of hope as a treat.
Ok. I managed to both break and then “repair” my laptop at xhain tonight. 😂 Good thing it happened somewhere I had tools available.

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.
He is a computer safety researcher.
And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

I was pondering the Stolpersteine around me on my way home last night.
How did the world confuse “never again” to mean apply to anything other than all people?

Schumer sucks. We all know this. Even he does. He is driven by the same kind of delusional self importance that Trump is. The only difference is he doesn’t have the P2025 people whispering in his ear.

pre-writing a devastating obituary for your enemy is god-tier hating of a kind you don’t often see anymore. renaissance haterism. beautiful stuff.
A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.
Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."
Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

US friends should check this out. Potentially a better alternative to dropping GrapheneOS on a Pixel with all the associated caveats. Personal devices need to support privacy out of the box.

I joined the Gleam (programming language) discord which is great but I was entirely unprepared for the immediate discussion on bikes. Such a welcome surprise from the community. 👋

So it turns out... the US air travel system was incredibly, deeply dependent on federal funding to just run day-to-day all this time, to the benefit of private airline shareholders, when everyone thinks that state-run trains are leeching off the government. Weird!

I’m so deflated by something I knew was coming. Honestly this is why I chose to go somewhere where I had friends and community because that is how we get through things. Sometimes things are too hard to do alone. I refuse to give up truth for a despot.

Gender markers shouldn't even be on passports at all in the first place. They are unnecessary and I'm glad Justice Jackson hints at this. They weren't even added until 1972 when women started to be able to travel independently of their husbands and fathers.

And here is why I moved early rather than later.
BREAKING: The Supreme Court will allow the Trump administration to enforce its anti-trans and anti-nonbinary passport policy during litigation.

This needs more attention: Zohran SPLIT the straights with Cuomo. ALL of his margin was from LGBTQ+ voters. Every Dem who ever said “we should abandon the transes” needs this shoved down their fucking throat with a ramrod.

The progressive candidate is on the cusp of a historic mayoral win. And that's adding to unease among Democrats looking for a way back to national power.

I want to remind my engineering minded friends that AI skepticism isn’t limited to the question “Do LLMs work?” It undoubtedly can do things and even get some tasks done correctly. Maybe that’s interesting to some but more so, it doesn’t address other issues people have.

Kicking myself that I forgot my field recorder at home. I love rain capturing various kinds of soundscapes in the rain. Each has its own magical qualities. Fortunately (or not for the hydrophobic), it rains a lot here.
It’s so nice to have nature right outside my doorstep yet still be 20 minutes from all my favorite spots in Berlin.

Zohran Mamdani caught lying that he understood Plato’s allegory of the cave, yet when asked to explain it, he seemed to instead explain Baudrillard’s theory of Simulacra and Simulation where reality has been replaced by symbols and signs, which seems similar to Plato’s theory but is not the same
