I don't think it was ironic as much as like when someone at work starts using jargon they obviously don't understand because they think it impresses people.
If you really pushed me on it I would even say that progressives using it are employing the same ironic usage as conservatives. It's too late now because it's ubiquitous but I still think people should stop it

it's neat that university boards are saying "actually our classes will not teach you to think bc we know that's very scary, so from now on our degrees are meaningless bc we will let students come here and decide to give us money so they can choose not to learn shit, this is a good longterm plan" 🫠
