Lateral moraines, older and more recent, of the Pindari Glacier.

The older moraines, further from the glacier (~3 km), have eroded into gentler rounded linear ridges. The recent moraines retain a sharp edged relief.

Deep in the Sumatran jungle today we found the extraordinary flowers of Rhizanthes pushing their fangs through the forest floor. A sap-sucking, leafless parasite, this is one of the world's weirdest plants.

Named (for the moment, at least) after a local boy from Albemarle County, whose name is also applied to the range of mountains that runs through Glacier National Park, as well as the thrust fault that brings those Proterozoic Belt rocks on top of Cretaceous shales. ⚒️🦉

She, STEMSEAS co-PI Sharon Cooper, & I demonstrated the program's vitality for utilizing transits of the US academic research fleet for changing student lives. ⚒️🌊
