Abolish ICE and CBP

Honestly, not sure how I would have made through this past year without the indispensable reporting/writing of Chris and number of other brilliant reporters/writers who are anchoring their coverage around bluesky. They deserve this community's full support.
It’s been a year.

Donald Trump took the oath of office and returned to the presidency one year ago today. In the time since, I’ve published nearly 250 stories here at Law Dork.

Help me drink more coffee — and cover year two — with a paid Law Dork subscription today.
Trump two, year two. I will be covering it, and I need your help — and more coffee.
It’s been a year.

Denmark/Europe should organize a counter-Olympics.

Every freedom-loving nation should opt to participate there and boycott the United States.

The world was slow to react to fascism a century ago.

Let’s be quicker to the draw this time.

Mamdani: "I am in support of abolishing ICE. What we see is an entity that has no interest in fulfilling its stated reason to exist. We're seeing a government agency that is supposed to be enforcing some kind of immigration law, but instead what it's doing is terrorizing people."

We cannot normalize this federal occupation of Minneapolis.

It is not normal to watch people abducted in front of our eyes—dragged from car windows, pulled from their homes, and children left without parents.

This is not about immigration. It’s about unchecked cruelty.

This is what happened in our neighborhood yesterday. ICE snatched a human being off of our streets, roughed them up badly, and then pepper sprayed legal observers as they documented it all. This is a daily occurrence happening all throughout Minnesota right now.

I have always told my white students that they can acknowledge the harm that white supremacy has done, and choose to repair that harm, but I've advised them not to stay there.

You do have some fierce AF ancestors, too. It's just that we don't learn about them or what we learn is lies *on purpose.*

"If, as Noem said on Thursday, the administration’s view is that anyone 'surrounding' any person involved in a Kavanaugh stop can have their citizenship questioned — a Kavanaugh stop once removed, if you will — then virtually anyone in the U.S. could find themselves subject to a Kavanaugh stop."
Noem says that virtually anyone could face a Kavanaugh stop
Trump started off the day with an Insurrection Act threat. DHS Sec. Noem followed up by saying that anyone "surrounding" any DHS target has to prove their legal status.

Senate Democrats absolutely have to shut the govt down to stop this ICE insanity in the Twin Cities. This is not sustainable & cannot be normalized. Any Democratic vote to provide money to the thugs who are brutalizing this community is a grave betrayal to the people here. Accountability can't wait.

I said this before...
If they are only looking for criminals who are already in jail, then why are they terrorizing communities and abducting people off of the street?

-disband the agency and prosecute all abuses committed under its banner

"When immigrants don't have rights—can’t access healthcare, have no labor protections, can’t participate in politics & cast ballots against fascists, when their path to citizenship is a bureaucratic, expensive endless nightmare—we're made less safe, & our democracy is catastrophically weakened."
I argued that communities targeted by ICE should be granted citizenship immediately. This is both a matter of justice and an imperative if we're going to crush fascism.

Fascism thrives where there are groups that lack full rights. www.everythingishorrible.net/p/for-immigr...

From a good friend in Minneapolis: "Target is allowing ICE to stage in their parking lots, use their restrooms, and abduct people from inside their stores - so if you weren’t boycotting already, now is the time." They were staging in Chicago as well.

America is now at the heavily armed secret police doing warrantless door-to-door house raids in search of undesirable ethnicities and/or political dissenters stage. The difference from well known historical cases is down to scale.
A video of ICE agents conducting door-to-door searches today in Minneapolis

The homeowner requests a warrant repeatedly, is told they don't require one, then is told they're getting it, then the agents storm in anyway

They also point a taser at her to try and disrupt filming

The black letter of the Military Commissions Acts of 2006 and 2009 make murder of civilians in the violation of the laws of war, including particularly perfidy, capital offenses punishable by death. Putting Pete Hegseth on trial for his life is now the compromise position for Democrats.
Breaking NYT:

The Pentagon used a secret aircraft painted to look like a civilian plane in its first boat attack, according to officials briefed on the matter.

The laws of armed conflict forbid combatants from feigning civilian status.

That is a war crime called "perfidy."

In Germany, a lot of houses have these Stolpersteines on their sidewalks or stoops. They’re a memorial to victims of the Holocaust who were ripped from that home. Some houses have a few. Other houses have many.
