Remember that elections are held at the state/county level. The county clerk (an elected position) oversees and transmits the tallies. Voter suppression's true levers are things like removing access and intimidation. You can fight back by volunteering as poll workers, supporting voter rights orgs

The reason I think it is important to say this is that it helps us focus on the likely risks.

It is, to me, very unlikely that a state will simply choose not to hold elections.

It is also, to me, very likely that voter intimidation and suppression will increase beyond the current terrible method.
Your regular reminder that there is no legal path from martial law to suspending elections in this country.

That doesn't mean there is no path. It just means that we need to reject the framing that the federal government has any legal authority to cease elections.

Instead of whatever this is, we should have a government getting lots of new homes and apartments built, lots of clean energy built, lots of high speed rail and transit and bike lanes built, human rights for everyone, economic & healthcare opportunities for all, & innovation that leads the world.

Northtown Books in Arcata is an absolutely incredible bookstore. Several years ago I met the folks who are running it now and their passion for running a welcoming local space was so infectious.

This fire is utterly awful.

If you can afford to kick in a few bucks to their fundraiser, please help.
Just spoke with the owner, Dante, & learned there is a fundraising page. If you are not in a position to give, please consider sharing this widely. Let's blow through that preliminary # -- immediate access to cash gives options the fire would seem at first to destroy.

In other news, the whole thing about Calibri v. TNR isn't about a font face, it's about the fact that Calibri is easier for people with some disabilities to read.

They think any accommodation, however painless, should stop.

Let’s stop commenting on a writer’s work by telling them what they forgot.

Either they thought of it, and chose not to include it for reasons of their own, or they didn’t think of it and you can add something to the conversation.

Starting your comment with, “You forgot to mention…”? Bad form.

False premise in the question: it is beyond unlikely Mark Cuban believes the government would be unable to pay for appropriate, affordable, well-compensated care for *everyone* “even after taxing all the billionaires 90%”.

He knows damn well the government could cover much MOAR w/that money.
R U ok with paying 8 to 12 pct more in taxes and possibly losing your standard deduction ?

R U ok with losing access to different curative medications and care because the government can't afford to pay for them, even after taxing all the billionaires 90 pct?

This right here is an entire story, a poem, and a dream.
Listening to piano as I clean my home.

Flashbacks to Sarajevo. It was the only place I ever showed up in & prolonged my stay — from 3 weeks to 7 weeks.

I stayed on a hillside & passed a performing arts school to get to town. Every day, I’d hear opera, violin, piano from windows. I walked slower.
