Apparently it can always get worse. The full version of the new U.S. National Security Strategy, aptly named “NSC-1488” by the wags, calls for actively pulling Poland, Austria, Hungary and Italy from the #EU. And supporting far right.

US sides with Putin.

Note: Only 18,561 people applied for asylum in 2024. That’s 0.003% of the population. Which means 99.997% of the population are not asylum seekers. Remember this is a “record high”.

Well done everyone. Y’all voted in Donald McTrump by the looks of the scarce legislative output from the Cesspit.
Scandalously at 1am, the government has just pushed through a law with far reaching ramifications.

It allows them to sign up to a parallel court process only accessible by corporations. There they can sue Ireland if we do anything to interfere with their "right" to profit.

Expect to start seeing mentions of something similar from the end of next year onwards.

Because when empty parties lose the patronage powers of office, they find that the walls keeping that power away from the electorate can fall very quickly.

On YouTube you have perky Pathé announcers declaring ‘Russians are making do, despite the latest failure of Stalin’s 5 Year Plan. No bread? No bother for Melania and her 6 children as they eat floor mats from the local Lada factory’

USians are drinking less caffeine as they can’t afford it babs.
Cafes across the U.S. are embracing the low- and no-caffeine lifestyle, with options that are a far cry from dusty tea bags and rewarmed decaf. nyti.ms/3XKlqoj

An integral part of life is learning how to grieve in order to understand the depth of compassion you can feel for another, and the pain of its absence.

In a world of digital undeath life becomes meaningless because there is no consequence to its ending.

Gareth Sheridan, the millionaire and former presidential hopeful, has said photos he posted with Russell Brand and Candace Owens last week were taken at a Christmas party hosted by Tucker Carlson, which was "not a political event".

at least some of the reason that a (minority of) Tipperary councillors nominated Sheridan was to wash away the stain of having nominated Peter Casey in 2018, so this is a pretty good punchline to that story arc
"Gareth Sheridan went to Tucker Carlson's Christmas party" is already crazy, but "Gareth Sheridan took a photo with the world's most famous antisemitic conspiracy theorist, then voluntarily posted it on the Internet" is blowing my fucking mind

💰🇷🇺 Viktor Orbán just announced that a large Hungarian business delegation will travel to Moscow in the coming days to discuss economic cooperation.

Hungary is preparing for a “post-war world,” Orbán said, as “the sanctions and the war will come to an end” at some point.
Multiple diplomatic sources say Orbán’s MFA Péter Szijjártó may return to Russia as soon as next week. He clearly enjoys Lavrov’s company (as seen in the Nov 28 Kremlin video before Orbán met Putin) but such a quick return would still be unusual, even for him. (🇭🇺's MFA didn't react to my questions.)

Great piece. The US announcing itself like this could finally help trigger some EU resistance. But arguably it still undersells how ready (formerly) centrist governments and lawmakers are to jump on Trump’s anti-EU rhetoric and work with his far-right allies for short-term policy gains.
